I’m too old to get on the court, BUT for one last time I’ll whip your arse.. you like stats... I like the passion for the game...

THATS why I would best you....

PASSION for the game......Magic, Bird, MJ, AI, Kobe, I would take it to you like they took it to the teams they were playing.

Harden had a 31 usage rate and still lead the league in win share and was 2nd in mvp. Being efficient on high usage is Never a knock It is what separates the all timers from the other players.

I know Harden is not this board's favorite player. But I really do think you have to give him the edge, or at least say they're tied. I just don't see the pro-AI argument here.

When it comes to things like this, people love to compare rings. Well, it just so happens to be that neither have rings. One of the biggest accomplishments for AI people consider is when he went off and stole game 1 against the Lakers in the finals, when the 76ers were very outmatched.
Well, you would also have to equally give credit to James and the Rockets bringing the KD warriors to a game 7.

What good are stats if you don't have any rings to show for them and you constantly no-show in big games? Look, I give Harden props but between them, with my life on the line, I take AI, I know he'll bring the wood and kill himself to win and that'll spread to the rest of the team, hell dude's incredible as ISO player, James is a mixed bag

There is no “constant no show”. That is a false narrative. Some of hardens greatest games have been in elimination games. And his playoff PER in Houston is 10th. If there are constant no shows then there must also be 5x that many excellent games. That’s how #s work.

Wes Unseld wouldn't do too well with these advanced stats Dukke ,but his peers like Kareem , Nate Thurmond ,Reed ,Bob Lanier etc. had the utmost respect for him.

But I choose Harden's length & potential versatility/ efficiency.

Dude's 10 years deep, most of them as alpha, and no rings to show for it and no Finals appearances AS ALPHA to show for it, obviously Game 6 in 2017's a pretty bad stain on the resume

Bron won his first tile in year 9 (needed a super team to do it)

Jordan, year 7 or 8.

Harden being in year 10 is nbd considering
1. He hasn’t been on a super team.
2. He is coming out the west which is More difficult.
3. He has had to go through super team warriors to get a title, A team that neither lebron or Jordan woulda been able to beat with the sqauds they had in their first 10 years.

I tell y’all, y’all just don’t know about AI man, that dude was a fricking warrior on the court, the intensity he brought, the way he attacked the basket in a league of giants, the way he carried himself, the killer will he displayed night in and night out at his. That’s a frickING FOXHOLE dude, man. Y’all can keep the Harden stats and all that fluff but tell you what, when the chips are and you need to win, AI all day, dude was a freak of nature, educate y’all’s self.

It is not even close enough to get into the make believe intangibles stuff. When it is somewhat close you can try to add that. But we have 10+ years of data on both to show that Iverson at his best wasn’t even as good as hardens career average. Tbt hardens first year in Houston, way back when, he was more efficient than Iverson. And we know how much better James has gotten since then.

How is this thread still going? Much props to AI for being one of the great little guys in the league ever. An absolute warrior and even cultural icon to some extent. But, he is nowhere near James in the pantheon and history books, and I am not even a big James fan.

Iverson v Isiah or Stockton would be a better debate.

I love AI but he is kinda like russ where people assume that bc they wear a scowl all the time that they are a warrior or try harder or care more than other players. It just isn’t true.

AI

At least he tried to play defense

Philly had to trade away other scorers/playmakers in order build an elite defense because AI wouldn’t guard his man, but play the passing lanes.

Harden is the correct answer and it’s not particularly close, and I’m no HardenStan.
