Is Sherman just making trainer speak or is that type of condition really not that bad?

If they did a scope and blood work and he goes to the post, he's fine.

Put your money on Commanding Curve in the Belmont. If he had more track, he would have won the Derby.

That is what they all say.

CCurve looked a bit more impressive coming home because the last half mile was glacial. It wasn't like he was putting in a 48 sec last half.

To answer the question about the "blister", I assume it is nodule/lesion on/near the pharynx/ soft palate. it may have happened from the two sides slamming together. It could be from dust/dirt working it way there and causing a bit of an ulcer. You can also get pharyngitis from some respiratory viruses. He would probably be spiking a temp with a virus though and not eating well. If it has been there before, I would imagine it is mechanical. Of course west coast animals get all sorts of weird fungal crap as well due to the dry climate.

Is paulick stirring the pot again or is Pimlico trying to move the date of the Preakness in the future to add more time? Said something about nyra being open to discussion?!

If they make it too easy it will lose all importance. I'm sure he's just trying to start shite.

I don't know, I have no problem with an American Triple Crown being run like the English one. The 2000 is around the Ky Derby Day, the Derby is around the Belmont, and then the St. Leger at 1 7/8 ths is in September hasn't had too many cheap winners. It also makes a winner being good the entire year over a wide range of distances. In some ways it really does separate the men from the boys.

Pat Forde column today LINK

quote:

California Chrome has won three graded stakes races in a row, by a combined 14¼ lengths. The other nine horses in the field have combined to win two graded stakes races

The column discusses how quickly these races come, and I'm not opposed to changing it a little, but dragging it out does make it lose some luster.

I wouldn't have a problem with something spaced out over a time span like you described. That forces the owner/trainer to figure out how to run the horse between jewel races. What I don't want is to put the 3 races each a month apart. Historically the TC has been a test of durability, that's what makes it so difficult.

I guess I just hate change

This is how it's been set up as long as I've been alive so I'm used to it.

Oh shite, wise Dan getting colic surgery

Not good.

Small intestine too. shite. Not looking good. I've known 1 horse personally to survive a small intestine colic surgery. A few others have had to be cut open a 2nd time in a few days and still not made it

I agree, leave it the way it is, or any future winners will have to be noted with the "*".

You do know that it changed a bunch before others won it and they don't have an (*). Also, the Wise Dan news has really bummed me out. Aspy, is he out at Rood & Riddle?

He is :( at least he's in the best hands.

In a way, I'm kind of glad I didn't have to make that choice with my mare. Such a hit or miss surgery. When they found her in the field and tapped her stomach it was already too late.

California Chrome may have a cough? Did I hear that right on NBCSN last night?

Yeah, I hope he pulls through, and if anyone can it's him. I'd say either way his racing career is in serious jeopardy, but he could go hang out at the Horse Park and entertain the crowds.

He did have a cough from a blister in his throat. He was scoped and had blood work done. He was on the track today so I'd say unless he gets worse or spikes a fever, he's going to run. If he does run, it's of little concern.

Nbd, apparently. Sogafan may be a vet

Go back and look at his explanation one page over.

Also, from Claire Novak of blood horse:

@BH_CNovak: WISE DAN UPDATE:He is still in surgery, but LoPresti called to say it's the best case scenario for colic, nothing had to be resected" (cont)

LoPresti called The Blood-Horse’s Claire Novak during the surgery and reported the scenario was best-case and, “If he recovers from it well, they're thinking (six) or (eight) weeks off at the most.”

Sounds better than it usually does, but damn, 6-8 weeks? They are going to run this horse until he dies.

I'm just hoping for no complications. Horses are so damn fragile.
