I classify him as the worst Derby horse to win in my lifetime

I agree with that. Giacomo and Gato Del Sol were 2 other mediocre horses that won the Ky Derby that come to mind.

Why the hate though?

It was pretty awesome what he did that day, but I'm not sure he ever won again. I didn't like the connections, again probably unfairly, but the trainer looked like some yokel that happened to get really lucky. MTB made 9 more starts after the Derby, he won 0. He ran 4th in the SUNLAND PARK DERBY!!!!!!

Giacomo

His win crushed me because if he just runs 2nd, I have the tri. But I didn't hate him.

Giacomo actually came back and won a grade 2 as a 4YO. He wasn't a BAD horse he just wasn't a top class horse.

Super Saver IMHO is the worst derby winner in our generation. Along with Mine that Bird

Actually, speaking of Super Saver, I am always just a little flummoxed how Todd Pletcher has such a hard time getting to the winner's circle in the KY Derby. He literally gets the picks of the litter each year, gets some with a chance and others without to the Derby each year, but then they often just run like crap in the Derby. Just look at the difference between him and D WAyne and Baffert in their heydays.

You know it wasn't me that called him bad, right?

I've heard it explained that Pletcher trains his horses in a way that has them primed more for when they are 2 years old rather than when they are 3 years old and eligible for the Kentucky Derby. Not sure how true that is but makes sense seeing how many horses he has had eligible for the Derby. Seems like he has at least 2 every year.
