Here is a thread on Popovic from 2014. LINK Compare that to this one. In there he is called the GOAT multiple times and praised. Now he is guilty of "wrongthink" so apparently noone ever liked him
Well, he put his foot in his mouth and people changed how they feel about him. He wanted to assert his own perceived moral superiority, and he was a dickhead about it. Plus, his winning percentage now isnt close to what it was in 2014.
He stepped out of the box of being a coach and decided he wanted to be our parents. frick him.

I know someone that deals with the Spurs upper management on a personal level, bunch of snobby people with no regard for those who work under them. Pop is a reflection of that mentality.

Popp has softened since his Air Force day when he was deployed to Turkey during the Cold War. It's kind of crazy that he ended up having the reputation of dressing down reporters. He was one of those guys, but only if someone asked a really stupid question.
Early in the 1st year Avery Johnson's Mavs team made the NBA Finals, and lost to Miami, Popp made a comment about how the Dallas players all lined up and put their hand over their hearts during the national anthem. He said it was impressive, and that Avery was due some credit for it. He said it took a lot of team building to get them all to do that.
I'm sure many of you remember Avery played in SA for years under Popp. He was brought in as a player, but wasn't on the roster his last season as a player, when the playoffs came around. He was already running most of their practices as a player. The team had a lot of respect for him because of his San Antonio career. Those Dallas teams were built to beat San Antonio.
Last night I watched some of the Bucks vs. Boston game and saw Milwaukee hired Adrian Griffin as their coach. He played on some of those Mavs teams. He always guarded the other team's top scorer, whether they played guard or forward. I thought about how he was a lot like Avery when it came to their talent levels. They weren't the fastest of most athletic guys on their teams, but they were the guys that played the hardest. Popp was good at finding those guys.

Yes when I met pop that was the vibe I got too. And he has the audacity to chastise common working Americans. It’s hard to be a spurs fan with this guy as the coach.
