So, under the LHSAA pitch count rules -

A pitcher can throw 80 pitches on Tuesday night, rest Wed and Thursday and can come back Friday night and throw the 115 pitch limit?

Then he can rest Sat, Sun and Monday and do it again? 80 on Tues, rest Wed and Thursday...etc?

WOW. That's an awful lot.

80 pitches is about 4 innings of work. 12 outs. I mean, on 84 pitches he might could get you 15 outs (5 innings).... if he's cooking, keeps his walks down and has help from his defense.

I feel like most state athletic associations have some limits. Don't know where this occurred but there's a good chance it was against the rules.

For example, in Louisiana it is:
1-34 pitches = 0 days rest
35-59 pitches = 1 day rest
60-84 pitches = 2 days rest
85+ pitches = 3 days rest

Alabama is a little stricter:
1-25 = 0 days
26-50 = 1 day
51-75 = 2 days
76+ = 3 days

By my reading of the rule I think you’re right.

And I agree that’s still pretty bad. MLB PitchSmart guidelines for 17-18 year olds is:

- 0 days rest for 1-30

- 1 day for 31-45

- 2 days for 46-60

- 3 days for 61-80

- 4 days for 81+

That strikes me as far more reasonable.

My uninformed guess is that the small school coaches screamed bloody murder about having to sit a kid, basically for a week, if he throws 16 pitches an inning for 5 innings.

Monday started the week over. So it’s legal, but not advised depending on the situation. If this is it for him, then let him get all he wants!!!

They’re 15 and if Braxxton and Brayden want to make it to the bigs one day, they better show out and show that durability.

Really tho, that’s pretty fricked up

That's generally not true anymore. Old pitching rules used to be based on innings and did roll over on Monday. However, most states now use pitch counts and days rest and the day of the week is irrelevant.

There is not a single syllable in the LHSAA rule book that “start(s) the week over” on a Monday.

The entire rule is based on pitches thrown in a day. Full stop. There are no exceptions. And the rule applies to varsity, JV and 9th grade games.

It’s even drafted specifically enough that it states that the pitch count applies “with the same arm,” in case a coach has the one in 10 million kids who can competently pitch with both arms.

And even if “this is it” for the pitcher, Tommy John Surgery is extremely expensive, unbelievably painful (the surgeon literallt drills holes into the condyle of the bone), and requires an entire calendar year of rehabilitation.

Which the kid goes through. Not the coach who needs the kid in order to pay his mortgage.

Curious how you obtained these pitch counts.

I saw them on GameChanger. It was 57 on Thursday, 49 Saturday, and 98 on Monday. But after seeing someone post the LHSAA rules it seems like it’s fine by the rules. I personally think it’s bad to do this to any pitcher.

Update. Kid has now started 5 of the teams last 6 games. Threw 57 pitches this past Saturday and today is at 80 now in the 4th inning. This coach is killing his arm.

Don’t even waste your time bro, this thread is full of a bunch of dumbasses that know everything although they never played, haven’t lifted a weight in 20+ years and frankly know shite about shoulder and elbow injuries and what causes them.

And OP I think you are full of shite if you are in Louisiana, if it’s true report them.

The parents should’ve stepped in if they cared.

And they have pitch count rules for a reason, sounds like they’re being broken if true.

Report since his parents won’t.

Watched a high school baseball game recently. Kid went up to 120 in one game. I’m not that big into baseball but that seems like a lot of pitches for one game

115 is pretty normal and is the pitch count limit if im not mistaken, they can finish batter so 120 happens.

happened 30 years ago and happens now and its about the limit they should have.

Puts the kid and the parents in a horrible spot

The kid doesn’t want to let his team down. And the coach clearly doesn’t care about that kid at all.

So that leaves the parents having to choose between being “crazy little league helicopter parents,” or sit there and watch the coach shred their son’s arm.

If this indeed happened, I’m guessing the parents and coach are trash and oblivious to being a decent human.
