Not as loaded of a field as the past few tournaments, but Webb Simpson is back after skipping the Travelers, and other players like Bryson DeChambeau, who has finished in the top 10 in each of the three tournaments since the tour resumed.

Featured Groups (PGA Tour Live): 5:30 AM-5:00 PM
Golf Channel: 2:00 PM-5:00 PM

Featured Groups:
6:35 AM (Tyrell Hatton, Sungjae Im, Brandt Snedeker)
6:45 AM (Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Nathan Lashley)
11:50 AM (Brendon Todd, Bubba Watson, Jason Day)
12:00 PM (Patrick Reed, Bryson DeChambeau, Hideki Matsuyama)

To be fair, this is Jason Day's fourth consecutive tournament he's playing. When was the last time you could say that?

I like Bryson DeChambeau to finally close one out but his odds this week are terrible for betting. With one year of stats for Detroit Golf Club, Webb Simpson and Hideki Matsuyama lead the stats that were important in victory last year Birdie or Better Scoring, Par 4 Scoring, Par 5 Scoring, Strokes Gained Tee To Green, and Strokes Gained Ball Striking. I looked a little further down the list and combined Course Form and Recent Form for my picks this week.

Tony Finau 30/1 to WIN
JT Poston 38/1 to WIN (11th last year, mc,8,10 last 3)
Doc Redman 43/1 to WIN (2nd last year, 11,21,58 last 3)
Brain Stuard 17.5/1 Top 5
Kyle Stanley 20/1 Top 5
Mark Hubbard 22/1 Top 5
Wyndham Clark 27.5/1 Top 5 13.5/1 Top 10
Ryan Armour 15.5/1 Top 10
Cameron Tringale 36.5/1 Top 5 17.5 Top 10
Dominic Bozzelli 21/1 Top 20

I will be watching Sam Burns this week just couldn't pull the trigger and probably will regret it. I had a few good weeks with Webb WIN at RBC and Steele Top 10 at Travelers trying to keep it going.

Winner last year Nate Lashley got in as the 3rd alternate and was the last alternate since Vaugh Taylor won at AT&T Pebble Beach in 2016. The list of alternates to win a PGA event is very short.

Triple breaker from 10-12' left him stun after watching Webb's putt.

So I recently starting playing and watching golf and had to do a double take at the leaderboard. Chase Seiffert went to high school with me, a few years behind me but we were there at the same time

I always knew the guy was good at golf but didn't realize he was PGA tour good

Shoutout to Will Gordon, got that conditional status last week. Saw him +2 at one point today, he had 5 bogeys today and ended up at -1.

That's a tough bogey for Bryson on 18 there

Think that would be his first time tied for the lead after a round since it resumed

I had Doc in matchup over Zack Blair 1st Round win wish I had him for 1st Round Leader lol gonna needs these cats to go low in Round 2 it’s going be a shootout especially when DeChambeau is almost driving 390 Par 4s. Never thought i’d say that FATrick reed would look small next to DeChambeau but today when standing next to him he DID....

After Round 1:

quote:

(T46) Tony Finau 30/1 to WIN
(T46) JT Poston 38/1 to WIN (11th last year, mc,8,10 last 3)
(T1) Doc Redman 43/1 to WIN (2nd last year, 11,21,58 last 3)
(T25) Brain Stuard 17.5/1 Top 5
(T145) Kyle Stanley 20/1 Top 5
(T11) Mark Hubbard 22/1 Top 5
(WD) Wyndham Clark 27.5/1 Top 5 13.5/1 Top 10
(T46) Ryan Armour 15.5/1 Top 10
(T25) Cameron Tringale 36.5/1 Top 5 17.5 Top 10
(T45) Dominic Bozzelli 21/1 Top 20

I will be watching (T25) Sam Burns this week just couldn't pull the trigger and probably will regret it

He had a nice opening round. I always like following him for a bit at the Arnold Palmer.

I was a few years ahead and Ryan Yarbrough in high school. We were both left handed pitchers so he kind of looked up to me(I was mildly a punk and not terribly mature at that age so I didn’t really take him under my wing like I probably should have). He was out of this world nerdy, and not good at all. Great kid, but was a total geek and I’m honestly not sure if he could break 80 with his fastball. And he showed ZERO signs of having the attitude or athleticism to ever be much more than that.

The guy is now carving out a nice little Major League Baseball career
