He broke his club against a tree so he can't use it the rest of the round....that sucks!

If he broke it during the course of normal play, he can replace it. Remains to be seen if he will.

The said after the shot, he went up to a tree and broke the club so he wouldn't use it again, which constitutes he can't replace it

yeah but he's risking doing worse damage here. the wrists are so important to golfers. I would hate to see im WD but also hate for him to blow up his wrist and set himself back a year or two.

Sucks for Rory. Lesson well learned though. It was the 3rd hole out of 72. 
I hate it for him though. He's fun to watch. Hope he can still play.

Then they're wrong. I'm watching online, and they just showed the rules official taking the club back to the clubhouse to be replaced. If you break a club during normal course of play, it can be replaced. If you break it out of anger, it can't be replaced.

I think it was a bad decision to try to hit the shot that he injred himself on. that was a huge root sticking up and there was no way to take a full cut there and avoid hitting it. should have chipped out

He probably broke it on the swing, then just put the club out of its missery on the trunk of the offending tree with the root!

I don't think there is any way Rory makes the cut, expecially if he can't complete a full swing

I agree. No way his caddy should've let him hit that though. (Yes I know it's ultimately Rory's call)
