Ever heard of Sandy Koufax???

Overrated peak. Koufax put up his best numbers at home where he had an unfair advantage due to the Dodgers raising the mound for their two star pitchers.

The only position players worth a shite in the National League during the early 90s were Barry Bonds, Tony Gwynn and Barry Larkin. The American League had Cal Ripken, Robin Yount, Frank Thomas, Paul Molitor, Ken Griffey Jr., Rickey Henderson, George Brett, Mark McGwire, Roberto Alomar, I can go on and on. There was a lot more HOF talent in the American League than there were in the National League.

there are some major retards in this thread. The NL was a better league in the early to mid 90's when Maddux was dominant.

Maddux put together one of the most impressive careers ever. He's also arguably the best fielding pitcher of all time.

People act like Pedro spent his whole career with the Sox, when in fact he spent the majority of his career in the NL

THANK YOU!!!! Its that some just DON'T KNOW!!!!!!!

Koufax was very good on the road but not this historically great pitcher that everybody keeps talking about. He didn't have a better peak than Pedro or Maddux or Walter Johnson or Lefty Grove or even Randy Johnson. The only thing that really impresses me about Koufax is his postseason numbers. That's it.

Bonds was incredible, one of the top ten position players to ever play the game but he's just one player. I also think his OPS+ in the early 90s was inflated because he was playing in such a shite league, similar to Mickey Mantle in the '50s.

When it matters most. Do you even know what he did between 1962 and 1966??? NOBODY has EVER DONE anything close to that for 5 straight seasons. And back THEN it was REAL baseball. Come on Bench. I know its somewhat different NOW. But Maddox had a better Career than Pedro. If I needed one or the other to WIN a Game seven, I would take Maddox EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pedro had the better 2-3 year stretch. Maddux had the better career.

He only pitched in the AL during the height of the steroid era and was still a badass

Maddux feasted off the JV side

this. even today, AL pitchers who move to the NL start dominating just as NL pitchers who move to the AL struggle more. NL blows

Maddux's 2 year peak > Pedro's 2 year peak

Maddux:

1994 - 1.56 ERA, 10 SHO, 3 CG, 0.896 WHIP, 271 ERA+
1995 - 1.63 ERA, 10 SHO, 3 CG, 0.811 WHIP, 262 ERA+

Both of those years are the 4th and 5th best season all time as far as ERA+ goes

Pedro:

1999 - 2.07 ERA, 5 SHO, 1 CG, 0.923 WHIP, 243 ERA+
2000 - 1.74 ERA, 7 SHO, 4 CG, 0.737 WHIP, 291 ERA+

That 2000 is the best season in modern MLB history as far as ERA+ goes

Better in their Prime=Pedro. Better and longer career=Maddux. If I had one game and had one guy to choose in their prime injury free=Pedro and it's not even close.
