The players salaries are tied to the way the franchise is ran because of the salary cap. If there were no salary cap, then you’d see guaranteed contracts. But you can’t pay a player a fully guaranteed salary when he may not be on your roster while his salary keeps you from obtaining other players

An NFL team already takes on some of the salary if they cut a player etc

You can have guaranteed contracts, just that teams will have to give up a little flexibility and players a few years and dollars
