Question for Texas fans - is there any credence to the idea that Texas would become independent? I read a USA Today article in which the Texas AD said that it was something they would consider.

It apparently being considered, but as a last resort i think most people are confusing independent with the Texas Network which is a "side project" in order to make the big 12 (or maybe other conferences) viable. for what i have read, it will mostly show the minor sports plus baseball and some bball games that are not picked up by the major networks. It will also pretty much only be available in Texas. I personally would love to be able to watch every UT sporting event on TV.

I don't know why someone said A&M was tired of making money for UT, but I bet they are tired of making a lot less.
Because that's how most Big 12 fans I know feel. they are tired of funneling money to Texas. They hate the Big 12, as a general rule. Most Big 12 fans I know view it as a scheme for Texas to rob them of money.

a friend who's a TAMU fan says them moving to the SEC away from Texas would be the best thing to happen to Aggie football in years

The Pac10 commish has a reply

quote:

“We are aware of a story filed today by an Orangebloods.com columnist, speculating about possible expansion plans for the Pac-10 Conference. While many interesting scenarios have been suggested in numerous news reports, around the country, we remain focused on a thorough evaluation process that examines all of the options for increasing the value of the conference for our member institutions, our student athletes and our fans. We have not developed any definitive plans. We have not extended any invitations for expansion and we do not anticipate any such decisions in the near term.”

Interesting, I know most think Texas has too much control but I've never heard they feel like they are funneling money to Texas.
