Yup, 28M per his “endorsement” deal and 20M in (now worthless) stocks.

Pablo’s jersey is going in the rafters after these last few months

Pablo will likely win a Peabody this year

It’s becoming more and more clear this was for cap circumvention.
The only other owner wiring an amount to cover KL2 Aspire payment know shows they knew.
Even if they did not set it up, it is now clear the Clippers knew about it and hid it from the NBA. That is giving the Clippers a massive benefit of doubt. It seems more likely this was an uncle Dennis payoff that went wrong due to bankruptcy.
Kawai, Balmer, and others should be suspended a year and the effective cap of the Clippers should be reduced by 20% for a five year period.
Uncle Dennis needs a lifetime ban. Too many instances in his past of doing things the NBA does not allow.
That and a $29,000,000 fine paid to each other team’s charity of choice.

The source of that 2M investment? Dennis Wong

reporting from the toronto newspaper about demands kawhi made of the reptors back during his free agency
quote:lucrative no-show sponsorships (check) and equity in outside companies (check)
Basically, this story is a test of both people’s intelligence, and of the NBA itself. As the Star reported this week, Leonard’s uncle Dennis Robertson asked the Toronto Raptors for the same set of perks in 2019 that Leonard was receiving from the Clippers in 2021: lucrative no-show sponsorships, and ownership stakes in outside companies. (Robertson, who had not done his research, presumed the Toronto Maple Leafs were an outside company, and asked for a piece.) So Leonard asked that of the Raptors, looks like he got it from the Clippers, and because the vehicle was a company that was more or less a cardboard box painted green and left in the rain, the whole thing went belly-up and just enough of the arrangement was exposed. This is smoke, and fire.

I bet this would have never seen the light of day, but when Aspiration went up in flames, Balmer and Co. probably told Uncle Dennis not to do anything stupid and file a creditor's claim in federal court.
Uncle Dennis prob said frick that we ain't getting left out.
You see it frequently. The sham is going smoothly until for one reason or another there's a bump in the road, and the one with less to lose blows the thing up intentionally or not.

if the reporting is true, that money was owed to leonard by the clippers, not aspiration, for services rendered to the clippers, not aspiration. uncle dennis wanted his money, money that was (allegedly) agreed to in writing (via the sponsorship deal). at that point ballmer should have known what he was dealing with and come up with something else to shut him up

While this thought crossed my mind, 2M would just be pissing into the wind at that point. They needed waaaaaay more to keep them solvent.
But it’s damn near the perfect amount if you wanted to funnel some money to a certain “fun guy.”

why not just give the money to uncle dennis? like, literally in a brown paper bag?
Posted on 9/11/25 at 4:44 pm to cgrand
by the way, you really have to admire the balls on pablo torre. he certainly had those bank records when he did the first report. maybe he missed it, maybe not. but the outgoing wires to KL were easy to spot. i'd like to believe he held on to this just to see what the clippers/ballmer would say first.

Hell, you can ask that same question about all of this. I think they thought they just had a nice system here

Oh this was 1000% planned and intentional. Literally hours after the NBA’s Board of Governors meeting? I’m sure he wanted to see if he could get any comments from the NBA and others on the record prior to this second release.

quote:amin elhassen’s comment was apt…if all you have to do to funnel 50MM to your star player is have the owner launder the money thru a sponsor, all bets are off. Assuming the clippers get off easy with this, every other team will do it until it’s explicitly addressed in a new CBA
I think they thought they just had a nice system here
“lack of institutional control” language would be next
