The IOC commissioner is on now, saying that if they find anything, they WILL disqualify China.

Geez... the USA is just not good distance runners. We believe too much in instant gratification which is why we're such good sprinters!

If I were a distance runner for the USA, forget all the high-tech training centers in Colorado and stuff... I'd move myself to Kenya or Ethiopia to train!

Well, the US has won the medal count, they cannot be caught by China!

Of course, China will spin it to make it so they win, because they have the most golds, even though, it's never been like that.

Lagat didn't do so well in the 5,000, but that was a great run by the Kenyan.

OK, that's fine.

Update from some of yesterday's events:

The USA women's basketball team defeated Australia in a blowout to win the gold.

Both the men's and women's USA team took the gold in the 4 by 400 relay.

The American indoor women's volleyball team took the silver after losing to Brazil yesterday.

The US baseball team beat Japan 8-4 in the bronze medal game. South Korea beat Cuba 3-2 in the gold medal game.

Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0 in the men's gold medal soccer match.

Bernard Lagat, the only American hope for track distance running, left the Games without a medal, after finishing 9th in the men's 5,000 meter.

Finally, Matthew Mitcham of Australia won the gold in men's platform diving, preventing China from getting gold in all 8 diving events.

TV schedule for today's events:

At 11 am central, on NBC, the USA men's water polo team goes for gold!

After that match, six boxing gold medal matches and the rhythmic gymnastics finals will be shown on NBC.

Then later at 6 pm central, in the final televised sporting event of the 29th Olympiad, 2008 Beijing games, the US men's indoor volleyball team goes for gold against Brazil. Immediately following that match, the Closing Ceremony will be shown on NBC, ending the Summer Games until 2012 in London.

Through yesterday's events, the US leads the medal count at 107, and it's impossible (not counting potential later disqualifications) for them to lose it to second place China (96), no matter what happens today. China had a huge lead in gold medals through yesterday, and can't lose it, either.

NBC's afternoon coverage (including the men's water polo final), begins in about 10 minutes (at least in the east coast, I think Central, too, though).
