Just the Confederate South version. I had no idea what Notre Dame meant, which I'm fairly embarrassed about seeing as I've been to the cathedral multiple times.

quote:

The name "Notre Dame" is French for "Our Lady," which is a title for Mary, the mother of Jesus.

quote:

The term "Ole Miss" originally referred to the wife of a plantation owner or the mistress of a household in the Southern United States. It was a term of endearment and respect.

Yeah, sounds like exactly the same thing.

They have about the same level of success post-integration too.

They both essentially mean "Our Mother" or "Leading woman of my sphere".

Too bad that’s a lie made up by liberal media. The Name Ole Miss came from a year book nickname, standing for Old Mississippi.

That sounds even more like Mary, mother of Jesus

Read a book. Slaves called the house mother “Missus” not Ole Miss.

Maybe they called them Ma’am too. Either way, I’ve never read anything of slave strictly calling them Ole Miss, and I actually know the history of my schools name.

This idea of Ole Miss’ nickname coming from that, didn’t happen until modern day liberals ran out of racism supply. The same time they went after the Redskins, Indians, FSU, and everybody else. Use your brain.

I respect your right to believe the lies you buy into.

ETA: it is recent. Google used to tell the actual yearbook story, until this past decade.
