Sometimes this even pisses me off. If it is mud. Or just a shitty course condition like hardpan I don;t feel I should take a penalty. Pros wouldn't have to hit off of shite like that. Just no closer to the hole. Nobody is sponsoring my equipment.
Another gray area for me for cheating is OB and rate of play. I am usually pretty liberal with where the ball crosses the margin of a hazard and where it went OB. I NEVER go back and re-tee. That would piss somebody off
Just keeping up with groups ahead. I take the penalty of course.

Thats why rules officials carry their bible with them.
Where in their bible does it say that Tiger Woods can recruit 10 guys out of the crowd to lift a big boulder for him and have it ruled as a moveable object, or loose impediment, or whatever they ruled to let Tiger cheat?

..point is, you may think your playing by the rules and not cheating, but to play by the rules without "cheating" consecutively is HAF
1. That's illogical moral equivalence.
2. I don't know what HAF means. Unless you're trying to say "one half" which is illogical as well.

I don't think I should have to take stroke and distance for a lost ball when I can see where it went, but I just can't find it (not in the water or woods, just lost in the rough). The PGA golfers have old men to mark their ball with a little flag so that they can find it.

Where does it say he can't? I think that was a fair interpretation of the rules. It was a very large loose impediment, but it wasn't imbedded in the ground. When they moved it, there was no crater.

I think most people are far too liberal with determining where a ball crossed a hazard margin, especially when the ball never bounces on land. Usually people I play with think they're ball went a lot further than it probably did.
As for OB, if there's even a question about whether your ball went OB, and you're playing for any $, you should hit 2. If you and I were playing for $, and your ball went OB, you'd be going back to the tee; I don't care who you were pissing off.

This is a big reason why I don't think every day courses should have high rough. This is one thing that pisses me off more than any...even if I find my ball, I'll be pissed that I had to spend time looking for it 5 feet off the fairway. Plus, it makes the pace of play unbearably slow.

You're not gonna believe this. But I lost a ball 30 feet from the hole last week. I took the penalty and got a 5 on a 120 yard par 3. There was no one behind me so I looked for a few minutes. The grass around the green was incredibly high. But I didn't use it as an excuse for cheating.

You went back to the tee? That's admirable if so.

If it can be moved within the play of the hole, it is a movable object.
I can't stand Tiger, but he didn't delay the hole nor did he break a rule.

I'm not going to take 5 unplayable strokes when I'm just out there for enjoyment so I can move it off of a bed of roots in the trees.
90% of the time when I'm playing just because I love the game, I don't keep score anyways.

Shouldn't one person be able to move a loose impediment? For some reason, I invision small pebbles and pine cones when I hear that term. But, if there is no statement in the book limiting how many people it could possibly take to move it...

Moveable obstruction. You can take a drop or move the object from what I remember. Havent read up on rules in a while. I think I remember him saying he had a great lie and wanted it moved rather than dropping. It is legal either way.

Loose Impediments
"Loose impediments" are natural objects including:
· stones, leaves, twigs, branches and the like,
· dung, and
· worms, insects and the like, and the casts and heaps made by them,
provided they are not:
· fixed or growing,
· solidly embedded, or
· adhering to the ball.

That was exactly Tiger's point to the rules official. He said, "I know this is one big arse rock, but it's still a rock, and rocks are considered loose impediments." The official then told Tiger he was right, it is a rock, so he can move it if it's possible. I wouldn't have minded if the rule book would have been amended after that event to state that only the player and his caddie are allowed to move loose impediments. It was a bit ridiculous for Tiger to recruit the gallery to move the rock.

Pretty sure if the obstruction is moveable, you have to move it. You get a drop from immoveable obstructions, like grandstands. I haven't read the rules in a while either though.

There's a difference between a movable obstruction and a loose impediment.
An obstruction is anything artificial. A loose impediment is anything natural.

why take a penalty when im just playing a round? if its for money then id play from the rocks. i think thats stupid to play balls like that in a friendly game.
but do whatever u want i dont really care its not like im ever playing with you.
