Jon Gruden - Sandusky, Oh (Tampa Bay)
Another one I'm hearing people mention occasionally but I just can't see it.

True but there's probably a very short list of schools Gruden would consider and if he had such a list Ohio State would have a good chance of being on it. A better chance than say 95%.
I bet the Vols would be on that list, too. Notre Dame as well. If I had to guess, I still think he'll take another shot at the NFL, first.

Tennessee is not relevant at all and won't be anytime soon

Meyer seems burned out to me and while he is a very appealing television figure I don't think as highly of Gruden as many people seem to. At the end in Tampa Bay he was really kinda going nuts and dug the organization into a deep hole (reminded me of Ditka at the end of his Bears run - but there were enough Saintards who loved the idea of a Ditka that we ignored that and hired him anyway)
Gary Patterson should be near the top of any major schools list. I like him a lot and think his style of play would also fit what OSU likes to do with their football teams
Pinkel is solid but I'm not sure if he's elite. Maybe he is, maybe he just needs a more fertile recruiting base to call home and Ohio would be that for him

Paterson would be another good prospect. He doesn't HAVE to have Ohio ties to do well so long as he recruits Ohio well from the start and his assistant coaches can help him there.
Being accepted by fans and the Columbus media would be tougher. He would need to have a style of football that is somewhat traditional Ohio State, which means top 5 defense every year and a reliable running game. He has the defensive credentials already but I honestly haven't watched enough TCU games to know his offensive mind.
And kick the shite out of Michigan. He beat Wisky last year so he is certainly capable of beating Michigan. The only other thing he would have to do is embrace the culture; wear a jersey and jorts and throw regular couch-burning parties, making sure there are plenty of pasty, chubby homely girls there.

We will be pretty strong SEC competitors in 2012 and 2013. And SEC competitor = national competitor.
And I disagree about Gruden, although Gruden does have more ties to UT than any other major school.

If Urban doesn't take the job I would love to see them go after Patterson.

What kind of offense does he lean towards? Pro style? I watched the Rose Bowl but I don't recall.

I don't know how hands on he is with the offense, but I think they lean more towards a spread.

I see no reason to think Ohio State could even beat Tennessee at the moment, and I think UT would win next year as well.
But that's not the point. I said UT would be in that group Gruden might consider because he used to coach here and his wife is a former Vol and a huge UT fan.

Molsusports,
I too would love to see Ohio State go after Patterson if Urban does not want it. I would not Chris Petterson as well.
My first choice is Urban though.
