the Redwings only won a Stanley Cup when they picked up whatshisname from the Sabres

This is the first time a goalie has won the Vezina Trophy and the Stanley Cup in the same season since Grant Fuhr in 1987-88. Teams have been moving payroll away from the goalie position recently. (Not all, obviously. The Nucks and Flames both have huge long-term deals with their goalies).

Hasek won a Cup with the Wings as the backup to Osgood. He never could win one a starter. Osgood won four.

WOW. WTF IS PHILLY THINKING? I figured Carter was gone, but to trade Richards? WTF, that would be like the Caps trading Ovechkin.

what are you talking about Baloo? "While with the Red Wings in 2002, Hašek became the first European starting goaltender to win the Stanley Cup." does my memory deceive me? There was a succession of goaltenders in Detroit before Hasek that couldnt get the job done, Ozzy won cups at Detroit because of great team defence...

Joe Nieuwendyk asked Brad Richards to waive his no-move clause today. Richards declined.

I don't understand why Richards would do that.

Hope that's not true, but I've heard that, as well.

He wants a bidding war rather than a Brezzy situation where Stars get to trade his rights

Just curious on others thoughts if the Flyers sign Bryzgalov. Is this basically just trading uniforms, or are the Flyers (minus Carter & Richards) better than Phoenix?

they have agreed to a contract...I think the Flyers maybe worse than phoenix except we don't know now because Phoenix is short a top flight goaltender now

Richards and Kopitar give the Kings a nice couple of lines to go with their strong blue line to challenge Canucks/Ducks/Sharks. Nice value to get for Schenn, who I think will be pretty good but you know Richards is already proven at the NHL level.

There's a a lot of smoke just reading through Flyers forum. "they're cleaning the cancer from the lockerroom. No more nights off. No more partying, etc "

Beezer can stop a lot of shots, but no one wins without scoring goals. Philly must want to go back to square one.

Here's, under the four division set, the model that makes most sense.

East Division:

Toronto
Montreal
Buffalo
Boston
NYR
NYI
NJD
Ottawa

South Division:

Carolina
Florida
Tampa Bay
Washington
Dallas
Nashville
Philly

Pacific:

Anaheim
LA
Phoenix
SJ
Vancouver
Colorado
Calgary
Edmonton

Midwest:

Columbus
Detroit
Winnipeg
Minnesota
Chicago
Pittsburgh
St. Louis

I bet Bettman will want Crosby and Ovie together, though, so he'll do something like Pitt to the South, and then Philly to the East and Buffalo to the Midwest, or something. I don't really know.

Disagree. It doesn't make sense to have the Penguins in a different division from the Hated Flyers and Hated Rangers.

Plus the division names should be Adams, Patrick, Norris, and Smythe.
