Just a note for anyone considering A&M -27 tomorrow.
Manziel missing the first half is obviously the biggest name missing from a starting lineup, but Rice will also be without starters LB Cameron Nwosu and CB Phillip Gaines for the entire game. Top 2 defenders on the team and both were pre-season C-USA all conference. Gaines was the conference defensive POY last year as well. FWIW

Obviously you're biased but do you think your guys cover the 28?

After researching this SMU-TT matchup I'd have to lean SMU and the points. Too much uncertainty with the Red Raiders. Name and reputation is the only reason they are favored in this game. They'll be fortunate to come out of Dallas with a win.

New Coach and essentially a revamped offensive system

Walk on Freshman QB

Questions at OL and secondary

Isn't Tech starting a walk on true freshman QB tonight?

I am looking at NDSU +14 against KSU

FWIW, I follow Baylor closely. We struggle against teams that control the ball and keep it away from our offense. We should be able to score at will, despite starting a new QB this season, the question is will we be able to stop their long time consuming drives.

Just saw that, didn't realize Michael Brewer was out.

Staying away. May play the over 60 but that's it.

By the same token you could say-

SMU lost a lot of important defensive players while Ward and the other playmakers on offense are back

Kliff will breathe fresh life into a program that Tubs had let get stale

And my favorite thing about this game...

Tech returns every starter from a pretty good front 7 last year. SMU returns only 2 starters on the O-Line along with the loss of their best offensive player (RB Zach Line).

I look for Tech to control the LOS and put a lot of pressure on Gilbert. And we all know Gilbert is prone to making his share of bad decisions. Add in a road environment that is about as intimidating as my grandma's poodle, and I like Tech laying less than a TD.

Your view of LSU's prospects is much more optimistic than mine evidently. Hope you're right!

I honestly have no idea with this game. I feel confident enough that the 2 backup QB's can move the offense well enough to score plenty on Rice. I also don't think it's going to be the JFF second half arse pummeling everyone is expecting to see.

Sumlin is very good friends with Rice's head coach and has been for a long time. I don't see him intentionally running up the score if he doesn't have to. Also, there's no way Manziel plays with the 2nd stringers on offense and I only expect the first team to be out there for a series or two in the second half.

My game prediction is something like 24-7 at halftime, 41-14 at the end of the 3rd when Manziel gets pulled, and 48-24 final. Backups on defense playing most of the second half allow the backdoor cover.

I'm probably full of shite though so don't hold me to it.

Good information ..Just too much uncertainty for me to bet on this game. It'll be a no play

Fair enough. Your prediction of a backdoor cover does make sense.

In the interest of full disclosure, I locked in it before I knew Brewer was out...but I love all this discussion, keeps me sharp

Let's get it this weekend and start it off right!

SMU is returning a lot and has Garrett Gilbert (former 5*) in his senior year.

To be fair, the kid did have a few D1 offers but decided to walk on at Tech instead.

Still doesn't change my mind of no play though.

Where were the offers from though if he ended up having to walk on at Texas Tech?

That isn't what scares me, its more the true freshman thing that scares me away from thinking they will put up 35-40 points.
