Yan Gomes and the Nationals have a deal for two years and $10M, per a source. The deal, which keeps the free-agent catcher in Washington, also contains award bonuses. @JeffPassan was first with the signing.

Jonathan Villar was a four win player last year and no one wants to pay him $10-11M next year? Sure, perfectly fine and normal, nothing to see here, move along folks

Jonathan Villar led all Orioles in WAR last season, with a solid season -- 24 homers, 111 runs, 40 steals, and according to this metric, he was the best baserunner in MLB, by far. LINK And he's put on waivers. Good for O's bottom line; a soulless baseball move.

No he’s not. He’s not a fan of their ownership and how they run the organization and wants to be closer to home. He wants to go to Texas and it will happen if the money is right
What “inside sources” do you have for any of this or are you just talking out your arse?

I like this move. Of course always hoping for an upgrade but with Suzuki back and the Nationals looking at splitting time at catcher basically 50/50 it limited who they could go after and how much money they could spend since already giving $6 mil to Suzuki.
The best part is it is a 2 year deal so now the catcher spot in 2021 already has a solid veteran with the departure of Suzuki after next year.
Hopefully the Nationals don’t keep getting nostalgic and trying to resign everyone from last season. Try and bring back Stras, Rendon and Zimmerman but that may be about all I would want back. Maybe Hudson although the Nationals may have just gotten the timing right with him at the back end of last year. Wouldn’t be upset to see him go instead of throwing a contract they may regret at him.

everything links him back to Washington unless a team comes with a serious contract. Rangers are the next team on the list.
Everything i’ve heard from the Rangers beat guys here is that if it comes down to money then he’ll be a Ranger.
I wouldn’t blame any big name FA for not wanting to come to Texas right now though if being immediately competitive is their main goal. Barring insane progression from our young guys, we are 3-4 years away from having a very competitive lineup.

It is definitely odd that the Nationals have not been able to get a deal done yet and I think starts making a departure look more likely.
Maybe it is just Boras waiting for more offers to come back so Rendon can use it as a bargaining chip to up his salary a little more with Nationals.
It seemed like it would have been a fast deal if both parties were set on reuniting.

Going to be our starting 2B.

The 4 year guarantee seems like a lot. Good for Moustakas though for cashing in after being underpaid for a few years. I’m guessing him or Suarez could play 2B

Braves non tender Culberson.

Yeah. Non-tendered Peraza.
I had hopes that he could become a decent player but this year he sucked. I still would like them to sign Didi if they can.
