Djoko should be on more than 1 of these, right? I'm not a student of the game, but he seems to be up there. Anyway, I just really like watching tennis and Djoko is who I've been following for a few years now. I first got into tennis in 1999 when I was in Europe for a few months and tennis was the only sports I could find on TV. Sampras was killing it.

Djoker just doesn't have any flaws. None at all. His return of serve is the best aspect of his game -- and his backhand is straight dirty as well -- but there's discernable weakness for an opponent to exploit. That's why he's so amazingly good.

I was just thinking about Agassi today with all this steroids talk in MLB going on. Do you think he juiced for that stretch he came back on?

I'd never rule anything out.

For all I know, ALL pro tennis players juice. Or maybe none of them do. I honestly have no idea.

His backhand could be in there -- it's excellent.

But I've got a soft spot for Agassi's backhand. SO compact. No wasted motion at all.

Nah I've never read his book, not sure why, just busy reading way too much other stuff. I read Strokes of Genius, I think is what it was called, about he and Federer's epic Wimbledon match, one of the best books I've ever read. I got a long list of books to read, but I need to add Rafa's to it.

That's a good one, too. I'm about to read "High Strung", which is the book by Tignor on the Mcenroe/Borg rivalry. And not to give you an even longer "to read" list, but Agassi's autobiography is excellent.

I actually like watching Rafa play on grass more than on clay, because it forces him to play more aggressive. Having someone like Fed make Rafa transform his game is the best thing that ever happened to him. I actually think he needs to apply some of this to his clay game

I agree 100%. I think Rafa was playing maybe his best tennis ever during the 2010 US Open when he was putting some more juice on his first serve and making a concerted effort to end the points more quickly. Grass courts and fast hard courts force him into that mindset, but it's not his default mindset. When he can get away with playing a scrappy dirtballer style, that's exactly what he's gonna do. And he's played 7 out of his last 8 tennis tournaments on clay.

Note: I don't know a goddamn thing about women's tennis other than Serena is really really good.

Sharapova just took the first set against Vika 6-1.

Do what?

hey Bobby, i'm about to check out for the night but have a question since you're knowledgeable in tennis.

Do you add weight to your racquet, lead tape? what are your thoughts with a heavier racquet, in regards to power and spin?

But there should be some good info out there on the subject. Do some googling on it, and you'll likely be able to find some info about the various ways it can affect the the feel/playability of your racquet.

It is definitely my favorite 2 handed backhand of all time.

Why is Nadal-Joker first tomorrow? I thought the first seed plays the second match. Maybe I'm missing something..

Because the French would've thrown a fit if Tsonga wasn't in prime time.

Did I just risk $1500 on a women's tennis match?

Should I seek out a 12-step program?

Never mind the 12-step program. I should have bet more. Serena is fricking amazing.

Serena-500
Sharapova+350

I have 200 on Serena. I may bet a hundred more.

Those odds are a fricking gift from the gambling Gods.

Wow, I've heard women's betting can be a goldmine, but wow. Will people bet solely on Sharapova's name alone or solely from dislike of Serena? I give Serena a 1-50 chance of beating Maria, and that might be nice.

What would yal put the O/U on number of games Sharapova wins in the Finals? 5?

Final predictions for the Rafa-Djoker match? I got Djokovic

5-7, 7-6, 6-4, 7-5

If that's all you had on Serena at -540, you need to think hard about your investment portfolio. Serena is focused. Losing that Set to Svetlana was the best thing that could have happened. No way a 5'4" player with no weapons and no serve (but ranked #5) was going to sneak up on SW or threaten her in any way.

BTW, everyone has a weakness. I can remember the Conners has no weakness talk in the 73-5 timeframe. He did.

Let's look at Djoker. His serve has been known to depart him at times. His two hand backhand is pure, but when he has to let go with the left, his right hand grip is too weak making his slice float a little. His forehand is relative weak and he can lose his feel for during stretches in matches. He also has been known to get to where he can't get enough air at times
(although this has happened much since he went to the new diet about 4 years ago. He is not a natural mover on clay although he has improved here as well. He hugs the baseline like Agassi did, but on clay that can make it tough to handle some of the heavy topspin and irregular bounces you get. It's much easier to catch the ball on the rise when you know very well where it's going to be and it doesn't have much work on it.

Don't get me wrong. The dude is awesome. Still an underdog tomorrow (-166) but he's playing the best clay court player ever. I'll give Djoker the US Open trophy now, but this will be a war tomorrow.

Interesting fact. If Serena wins tomorrow (which she will as she OWNS Maria) she will be only one of three women to have 2 career grand slams. Agassi's wife has FOUR. Wow.

Other interesting facts discusses during the SW match. Chris Evert won like 125 straight clay court matches during her career - lasted from 8/73 to 5/79. Wow. Martina went 86-1 in 1983 and then had a 74 match win steak in 1984. Why wasn't I betting tennis back then? Damn the line, give me the girl that just doesn't lose.

You don't need a 12 step program, you need a bookie.
