Actually, I dont have anything more to add than that. Like the vast majority of people, I am an Al Davis-hater. However, I believe him in this situation.

Overheard on Houston sport talk radio on the commute home yesterday:
When Al Davis hired Lane Kiffin, a writer for the San Jose Mercury News named Tim Kawakami questioned the wisdom of this choice. Some kind of way he ended up in a confrontantion with Davis after raising his concerns in print.
Davis then asks him "do you know who Deng Xiaping is?
Kawakami says "what? what does that have to do with anyting?"
Davis says "he was the premier of China. Why should anyone respect your opinion on football when you don't know anything about your own people's history?"
Kawakami replies "because I'm Japanese."

The truth probably lies somewhere in between both stories. Kiffin didn't exactly answer any questions from Wingo, which tells me he probably wasn't exactly truthful. What got me about the Davis interview was he said 'I handed him a letter, then he said I fedexed the letter.' How puss of a boss to give letters to their employees instead of talking to them. Then he fired him over the phone. Pitiful...

this is probably due to the strong likelihoodt hat he's going to have to sue the organization to recover the balance of his contract.

I think Al Davis is a crazy old man who has ruined one of the best franchises in the NFL
that being said, I believed him yesterday as well, don't ask me why but I did.

That is a surprise. I don't doubt that some of what Davis said was the truth, but Kiffin isn't the guy who has gone through 5 coaches in 6 years.

they gave kiffin his chance on espn to deny the allegations, he just sat there with a goofy look on his face

of all the things you could say about davis, "puss" isn't one of them .. in any professional organization, you need documentation for termination .. that's what his letter was .. if he can prove kiffin was fired for "just cause" he doesn't have to pay his contract .. that'll be the next fight ..
kiffin was way too young and not ready to be a head coach in the NFL .. i believe davis .. these mistakes made by kiffin sound like that of a guy that was in over his head ... trey wingo gave him ample opportunity to clear the air if what davis said in his letter were lies, and kiffin didn't do it ..

Exactly, which is also why he kept bringing up the "painful for my family" angle as well. You felt like that whole interview was all one big setup for the inevitable court case.
Al Davis is gangsta though. In his interview: "I called him up and told him he would be fired. And he asked me 'Does this mean you're not gonna pay me my money?' And I said 'Yes it does.'"

That was a ploy for the support of Oakland fans.

After Al sent one of his goons after that journalist who simply asked a truthful question, I don't believe anything Al says. Unless he said, "I'm a fricking douchebag". Then I'd believe him.

Man, that press conference witl Davis was AWESOME. It made him look like a fool, but it was still awesome.
In a sports world where everyone always gives the PC answer and we never really know what's going on behind the scenes, it's refreshing to see Al just lay it all out there for everyone.
What a mess in Oakland.
Poor JaMarcus.
