We had actually played a rigorous schedule before November 5th. Not even the most devout gump would have been able to justify not having us #1 at that point.

Exactly. LSU defeated every possible contender during their regular season. They even went into Tuscaloosa and came away with a win. If there was a year when the BCS was irrelevant it was 2011.
