I realize that I'm probably the only person who watched this over basketball today, but did anyone else catch his match against Nadal? He's on a ridiculous tear lately. He might finally be making the jump to elite that people thought would happen after his first AO win.

Elite as in truly a threat to Federer and Nadal. A lot of people hyped him as breaking up their monopoly on men's tennis after that AO win, and he responded by going into a pretty bad slump. They've both dominated him until recently.

He was already elite in my book.

It's more an issue of separating himself from guys like Murray and Soderling and joining the upper tier with Federer and Nadal

I didn't watch the match today, but I'm not shocked that Novak won today based on watching Nadal's first set against Del Potro yesterday. His serve was absolutely awful.

How did he serve today?

Terribly. Around 39% on first serves, which they were speculating might be one of the worst matches of his career. I'm sure part of that was Novak's ridiculous return game, but it was still pretty bad.

I watched him vs Federer yesterday. Ever since he fixed his serve, hes like a new person. Hes not the same head case he was a few years ago.

The guy always had the talent, now he has the composure.

He's dominated 2011 so far. He's still undefeated and has three wins over Federer. He actually passed Fed and took over the #2 ranking today.

That's what I heard, that Fed surrendered his #2 ranking when Novak beat him

He is elite, and has been for a little over a year.

He's better than Federer. That won't change. And he can beat Nadal on hardcourts if he plays well.

I know you like Novak, but he's been their punching bag in important matches for the past few years. The guy had never beaten Nadal in a final until today, and his record in slams against Federer was something like 1-4. He hasn't challenged the Fedal reign until now really. They've combined to win 10 of the last 11 slams since Novak's first

I doubt that Federer will be able to get the #2 back anytime soon, as Djokovic is really good on clay as well. I hope he does though. Nadal and Federer are still the best on grass, and I'd hate to see them in the same half of the draw at Wimbledon.

He's beaten Federer in two straight slams now. Federer is pretty much in the rear-view mirror of both players on hardcourts and clay. Obviously Federer could still beat either at any time, but he's simply not as good anymore.

On grass, Federer is still a top 2-3 player in the world it seems.

I guess Djokovic wasn't elite until recently, because the standard was set so high by Nadal and Federer. But he had been the 3rd best player in the world for a while, and you could tell that it wasn't long until he would be in the top 2.

He is no doubt elite now.
