They don't have to justify being Independent to anyone. They can afford it and are playing within the rules that are set up. It seems like a lot of people hate them for making money within the system that is set up

But also remember that the bottom part of their schedule was tougher than any other team's in the country. Not only did they not play any FCS teams, they didn't play any non-AQ teams either. There's a lot greater risk if an elite team getting knocked out by a sucker punch from a team like Pitt than a team like Towson State.
