He's a good coach, but he didn't organically build a low level program into a power. He brought in a bunch of really old players that won't exist in CFB moving forward and then used a billionaire to buy the rest of the roster. He's also only had to play 3 ranked regular season opponents in two years, one of which being a 4 loss Illinois team. It makes life a lot easier as a head coach when you can coast through the regular season and then turn it on with 24 year olds in the post season. ETA: I mean Mike Katic, a decent interior lineman who topped out as a 3rd team all big 10 member in his 5th season, was paid $300k to come back for that 5th year.
