Apparently they have a new way of calculating these numbers and as a result everything is higher than it used to be.

Older people are more likely to still have cable and also more likely to be the ones growing out of the NBA. The league is still extremely popular with young people. And unless they use their parents cable they just stream the games or watch them at bars.

There are probably more gamblers than casual fans.

Which is funny cause the casual fans hate the gamblers, and I get it, but without the gamblers their games would eventually not be on TV anymore more than likely.

this board also believes there's a multi-billion fraud going on with WNBA franchise values involving billionaires and banks inflating numbers

when something you hate is successful, the conspiracy theories come.

Not that I GAF, but I've wondered if those sports bars with 50+ monitors and half of them on NBA crap would get counted towards viewership.

I don't believe the numbers because I don't trust media.

I don't believe this for a second. I'm guessing they are getting funny with the streaming numbers to make this claim.

Streaming, in various forms, has been around a while.

I wonder if they were previously unable to track/measure streaming viewers whereas they now can, hence the viewership increase.

It’s been a while for me. But I am sure any/all sports get rating boosts when walk ons has it playing on 30 different tvs.
