For some reason, I don't hate this Philly team as much as usual
It's hard to root for the Flyers, though.

I'd rather the Flyers than the Blackhawks. I hated the Blackhawks when I was a kid because when the Rangers played them out there the games started an hour later and my mom made me go to sleep.
Loved the scoreboard though.

I am finding it easy to pull for Philly right now.
Also, looks like the joke about Halak cooling off was a good prediction.

Can you imagine being a San Jose fan right about now? Jeeez no luck.....

Halak had to cool down. I mean, he was playing at an absurd level completely out of line with his career. There's hot, and then there's nuclear.
BTW - Philly fans may be insane, but their stealing of the "Ole!" cheer to mock the Habs was brilliant. They may be mean-spirited, but Philly fans can still be devious.

I couldn't really believe my ears when I first heard it. But in the end, I thought it was quite funny...especially after they yanked him in game 1.

It sucks, but is this season really a failure. Despite getting home ice, alot of people thought Chicago was the better team. I look at this like the Boston/Cleveland NBA conf. semi series. Was it REALLY and upset?
Granted, this series isn't over, but San Jose is in the final four, there's no shame in that. Chicago was there last year, they know what it takes. They have a seasoned coach as well.
The big mystery is SJ losing at home, that's what sucks. Now they need to take 1 in Chi-town just to live another day.

Well, it depends on how this series goes. If they lose in 4 or 5, you have to call it a failure of a season, despite making it to the conference finals. the Sharks need to at least make this competitive.
The games have been close, they just aren't getting results. The Hawks are really, really good. Duncan Keith is such a badass. He might sneak into the Conn Smythe just by playing shutdown defense.

FWIW, I don't think a season's success or failure depends on how competitive ONE series is, unless it's the cup. If the Sharks lose in 4, or lose in 7...it's still the same end result.
They are playing Chicago okay, but that's not good enough at this point, and the fans realize it too. They have got to get at least one win in Chicago (which I know, is stating the obvious), but yeah.

Normally I agree. Playoffs are a bit of crapshoot and we retroactively label people gritty or tough to explain why teams won, when really it was just getting the bounces. But the Sharks have had so many postseason failures that they are really just playing for the postseason. There are no more regular season accolades to earn.
This is a long way of saying Joe Thornton gets a bad rap.

I agree with you to an extent. But they haven't had the same coach for each failure. Each season is different. So as a whole, are they a disappointment? Yes. But this particular season isolated, I wouldn't consider a failure.

Fair enough. Firing Ron Wilson was a good start. And Pavelski has blossomed this year. Boyle gives them an edge they didn't have before as well.

All of these moves have worked out for the best. They are energy guys who don't seem to put up with the BS. Still don't know why Ron Wilson was such a failure. I guess it's unfair to judge him in Toronto now, til they get some talent.
Damn...discussing Toronto the other day and someone reminded me of CuJo.

Wilson is a good coach for a bad team trying to get good. He's a horrible coach for a good team trying to become great. Veterans just tune him out after awhile. He's a great hire for Toronto right now.

maybe that explains the success he had with the national team?

Nabi still sucks!!!
San Jose doesn't have the speed edge over Chicago like they did with Colorado and Detroit, so now Nabokov is more of a factor.

I think Toews is kind of being overlooked. He had a good regular season of course, but also was a beast in the Olympics and now he's the scoring leader of the playoffs. Making him captain was a good move IMO and I think he's going to prove to be a hell of a player in the long run. Chicago has a lot of other weapons so it's kind of easy to overlook how important he is, but I just don't think he's gotten enough credit so far.
As far as Halak, he was due for some mere mortal performances, but the Habs have been shutout twice. Even though they weren't getting a ton of shots against the Caps and Pens, they were scoring. Halak could be sitting at .940 again and they'd still be down 2-0 b/c the offense can't do anything.
