Wow, what a horrible way to lose a game in OT.

I'm not a Sharks fan, but that was an awful way to lose a game like that. After both goalies posted shutouts in regulation, I would've liked to see a good goal decide it. Having said that, Craig Anderson deserves a ton of credit. Not just a shutout, but 51 saves?! That was an incredible performance. For a team with a fragile psyche, a loss like that can be a fatal blow. I'll be extremely interested to see if they can bounce back mentally.

Oh, and Chicago's win did indeed make it a perfect 8 for 8, 1-1 series starts. I'd imagine a few teams might break through and make it 3-1, but chances are, quite a few series are heading to games 6 and 7. You couldn't have scripted a more compelling start to these playoffs.

thanks. I am indeed from Louisiana, but I know a good sport when I see one. Anyone who takes some time to learn the rules and watch a few games can't help but find it compelling. And it's definitely one of the best live sporting events you can go to. Unfortunately, there is no team around here to go watch aside from the recently reformed Icegators (Southern Hockey League) in Lafayette. I'd kill just to have an AHL team within a few hours, but Houston is as close as it gets.

Andersons performance last night was nothing short of heroic,San Jose was called out by Kelly Hrudey in between periods as far too talented to go out in the first round and playing "disinterested hockey" San Jose seems to think year in year out that they just need to hang a sign out front of their arena reading "Stanley Cup Champions" bullshite that team isnt prepared to sacrifice to even win a playoff round...Heatley and several other players float through games disappearing for periods at a time...shame on their sorry asses, fluke goal or not they deserve to lose last night.

It's too early to put too much stock into the #'s, but I thought it was interesting that the top 3 Save %'s belong to guys without playoff experience (Niemi, Anderson, and Rinne all over .940%). Of those, Anderson and RInne are especially impressive given the offenses they're facing and the road games. Fleury, Nabokov, and Brodeur are all under .900%, in spite of enjoying home ice for 2 of their 3 games. I expected Nabokov to struggle, but Brodeur and Fleury are a little more surprising. Of course, one bad game can seriously skew the numbers at this point and that was certainly the case with Fleury's first game. It'll be interesting to see how those numbers look at the end of the first series. Chances are the guys who still are under .900% by that time will be sitting at home the rest of the way.

Rask is saving at .918 in his first playoffs. Buffalo's offense hasn't been that potent, though.

It's tough to keep track of who has who in here. For the record, I'm:
1) Bruins
2) Devils
3) Predators
4) Team USA in the IIHF Worlds in Germany
Partial Roster (They'll name the rest after the first round--another reason to pull for the Bruins!)

Not saying that any of them will win it, just that my interest level will drop a little when they're gone.

I agree on Fleury. His last two games have been borderline impressive...not last year lights out but impressive...The NHL playoffs have example after example of rookie (Ken Dryden Patrick Roy) and 1st time playoff goalies stand on their heads and win series/stanley cups (i think this is a case of too dumb to know they should lose)so much of a goalie is instict and reflex and momentum...its too early to tell but teams like Detroit have really had goalie issues as their Achilles Heel...the old adage you build a hockey team from the net out is never truer than in the playoffs....

Yeah, I'm actually wondering if they'd consider giving Osgood a look. He's obviously got the experience and was really good in the postseason the past few years. Howard had a great year and played a big part (second only to them getting healthy) in their turn around, but he's inexperienced and didn't look too composed last game. The most interesting situation is in Washington with Theodore/Varlamov.

This is the swing game for the series IMO. If Montreal wins, they've got a legitimate shot at the upset. The Caps are going to be in a tough situation if Varlamov doesn't play well tonight. Rotating goalies isn't going to work throughout the playoffs. As far as the Bruins/Sabres, it'll be interesting to see how Boston plays. They were less than spectacular at home this year and if they're going to advance in the playoffs, that has to change. The Sabres have some injury issues and I think that may be enough to give the Bruins the edge tonight.
