This is definitely true. As much as they're supposed to be a rival now, I kinda distantly followed them until VGK came into the league. The first NHL game that I ever attended was a Kings game at the Forum in 1985. This was the pre Gretzky purple and gold days when they would practically give tickets away to our Air Force base. Good times.

They actually made the playoffs at barely over .500 but ran into the buzzsaw that the Edmonton Oilers were at that time.
