Hate the Rams but always liked their helmets.

I like that the dolphin on the helmet is wearing a helmet.
But it would be even better if that helmet also had a dolphin wearing a helmet, creating an infinite recursion of helmed marine mammals.

I believe the Rams were the first NFL team to have a logo on their helmets.

AFL was the young, hip, exciting, wide-open league.
The NFL was the establishment, button-down, conservative league.

That lunch box is from 1976 the one year the Bucs were in the AFC
I went to their very first game, lost to the Oilers

Jack Davis, the cartoonist mentioned in the story, also did some album covers, and had a regular cartoon strip in the then NFL magazine, Pro Quarterback.
Called "Superfan", it followed the adventures of an accountant who acquired his football skills from a formula developed by a weird old scientist.
They were collected in book form later, and I had a copy way back in the day. Wish I still had it.

Hate the Cowboys, but the star is iconic.
That cannot be denied.

Its kind of impressive how many teams still have basically the same helmet as on those late 70s lunch pails.
Most teams that changed took a step back (Bucs, Broncos, Falcons, Oilers, Bengals)

The NFL has a lot of great iconic classic helmets that must never change. Raiders. Saints. Everyone in the NFC north
