In your opinion, has this been more beneficial to the NFL, owners or players?

Most beneficial to the owners. In theory it was good but it has directly resulted in teams slashing vets from their rosters in favor of cheap young players at every position with the exception of QB.

Any salary limit is gonna be more beneficial to those paying the salary.

earlier rounds it benefits the owners.
a bust no longer straps you as bad as it once did.

mid-later rounds it benefits the players.
the difference between a late 3rd and a mid 6th rounder is no longer a huge amount.
so players who are a 5-6 rounder this year with a ceiling of late 3rd or 4th if they come back to college for another year are now coming out and getting a head start to their 2nd contract.

It also accelerated the use of younger RBs. It was already a position where you might get 3-5 good years out of a player, but if you drafted one in the 1st or 2nd and had a huge contract, you were more likely to hold on to them. Now you just draft another one and let the veteran go.

Mostly owners, but also average or better players as well. More money under the cap needs to be spent, and if you're average or better you're getting a piece of that pie.

Beneficial to owners, the league, and fans. Not beneficial to the players. The rookie wage scale gives every team hope of a quick turnaround if they land a few key draft picks.

I'm sure the players hate it, but if it is good for fans and the league, they have to suck it up and remember that their jobs wouldn't exist if there wasn't fan interest.

good, too many unproven players were getting contracts that were getting out of control

Im against it. Teams have a salary cap, if they want to be idiots and overpay rookies, by all means go ahead

It is kind of a weird situation where if you have a good young QB, it creates urgency to win ASAP while he is on the rookie deal.

Jamarcus and Sam Bradford were the two highest paid QB’s in the NFL in 2007 and 2008. It was ridiculous before the renegotiation

It’s good for everyone. Otherwise, a bad draft pick can cripple your franchise.

The only players truly hurt by it are running backs who don’t have a long shelf life.

owners and fans

no more having to cut several of your vet players for a sam bradford.

you can afford to take projects at qb in 1st round, you couldnt when u had to pay them 10-20mil per. He got 5 years, 65 mil for doing nothing in nfl, but being drafted.

And showing up to camp. That’s why rookie salaries soared so quickly.

Jamarcus didn’t even show up to the Raiders complex until after the season started. He missed all of training camp, and the first game. He held the Radiers hostage until they forked over tens of millions of dollars for a player that had never thrown an NFL pass.

They denied it at the time, but the Texans drafted Mario Williams over Reggie Bush because Williams agreed to a contract before the draft.

And he was the better option at the time and in retrospect. Reggie wasn’t the prospect to the NFL that ESPN proclaimed he was.
