No. Leaf,Smith,J-Marc, and Ricky were all expected to do well in the NFL and produce. Nobody questioned those picks when they were drafted. Just because they were a bust doesn't make them a dumb pick. That's like saying that not drafting Tom Brady was dumb. Nobody could have possibly known he would turn into a HOF QB.

That slow bum from Ohio State...

Broncos have made some terrible picks.

Clarett and Tebow.

Well, that's not hard considering Payton coaches for the Saints.

Perhaps, Peyton, is the gentleman you're looking form

I don't think Mike Williams was considered a bad pick at the time. It was a bit odd that the Lions were selecting a top 10 WR every year but Mike Williams might have been thought to have more potential than either of the previous picks.

Weeden is probably the best example for this thread. Even if he'd performed well, he was a 28 year old rookie.

There were plenty of questions when JRoc went #1. Ricky desrved to go where he went, but was he worth an entire draft? And did he perform up to that level for the Saints? Leaf and Smith were just busts.

He was def considered a reach at #9, and I remember being super happy because the Texans were right after Det and it gave them a wealth of options.

Have to disagree. Ricky was bad bc gave up far too much for him. Many of us knew that was dumb. Many also knew Ryan Leaf would be a major bust and he was. And how can you say nobody question Oakland taking Jamarcus. I wanted them to pick him so it would be LSU player being first pick, but many if not most LSU fans knew that was a totally stupid pick. He was picked first bc he had a good Sugar Bowl against a horrific Notre Dame Defense and bc he had a strong arm. We knew it then; we know it now.
