This would be the worst, and thankfully has no chance of happening.

So if insert WR blows past a defender you just tackle him on the spot...what could go wrong

Because it is so terrible in the college game? What could go wrong with a 40 yd penalty?

Exactly, oh hey look Antonio Brown just roasted another DB, but tackles him so just 15 yards. Repeat about 3+ times per game for the top tier WR's or any time someone gets burnt, how fun.

Not like everyone loves watching deep bombs and big plays.

Sounds like it would be holding anyway, unless it was some sort of quick fade route.

It is kinda silly to have a 40-60 yard penalty. It’s a little much, and would bring some toughness back to the CB spot. They would be a bit more free to be aggressive

Never gonna happen.

League likes scoring and likes their pretty boys like Brady.

They're not going to make Mel Blount once again the poster-child of the NFL.

It would be back to muggings by DBs and Brady and his fellow QBs would look like garbage. League already has a bunch of QBs that look like they can't play big-boy football.

Correct, as do most fans and it is getting tore apart on social media with backlash.

Would be a terrible decision.

Keep it a spot foul. People want to see great catches and long pass plays. What will happen now is that once a DB is burned he'll automatically commit the foul. Belichik will tell his DBs to foul if you're burned past 15 yards.

Why are these counts in here acting like we don't already have a level of football playing with 15 yard PI and nothing terrible happens?

This doesn’t hurt the college game at all and the reason the NFL is atleast thinking of changing the rule is because of how terrible pass interference has become. They should do away with defense holding and the bullshite pass interference when the defender doesn’t have his head turn around. I hate when the QB underthrows the ball but gets awarded because the defender didn’t turn his head around.

The 15 yard int penalty will slow the NFL offenses and that's not what the NFL wants. They will interfere almost every play now rather than give up long pass plays.

Entertain me.. as the rule currently is.

3rd down and 25, ball at the 50, qb about to be sacked, throws up a prayer to the end zone and db grabs wrs arms before ball gets there.. pass interference, 50yd penalty, ball at the 1.

okay and

2nd down 1, ball at 50. ball thrown into the endzone over wr, and the wr wraps up the safety so he does not intercepy it. Pass interference.... 10yd penalty 3rd and 11

yea that makes alot of sense. Both penalties happened 50yds down field. one gets all 50yds, the other gets 10yds lol

This would be happening college but it isn’t. Most of the time when a DB can tackle a WR, he can still make a play on the ball.

Also, as it is now. QBs make shite underthrown ball and get bailed out all of time because the WR hits the breaks. 15+ plenty because bortles can’t hit WR

Because a 40-60 yard pass interference penalty is so much better.
