Hugh Weber on the Sports Hangover:

Decision on Bower: It was about collaboration. Our "owners" felt like "drastic changes" needed to be made. We all woke up yesterday morning and said "Something has to happen." It was best for both parties.

On the timing: Why now after draft, etc: There's never a really good time. Theres always something going on. We don't have a hierarchy based on one person like some other orgs. This team is bigger than me, George Shinn, or Mr. Chouest (yes, he said that). We have ALL been involved since the offseason began in all moves.

On keeping CP3 happy, the relationship with CP and Bower, etc: Chris is suffering the most from all of this speculation. Its a media business, they have to talk about this stuff. There is not a shred of truth to most of this stuff. CP and Bower's relationship was fine and had no impact on this decision.

The satisfaction of all of our team members is important. Chris is obviously important to this franchise, and will continue to be a big part of our franchise. However, we aren't going to just try and appease him, we are going to improve the Hornets.

On Candidates: Wont name names, wants to find someone that will CHANGE THE PHILOSOPHY of what they have done in the past. Wants someone aggressive, progressive and dynamic. We are a small market, so we have to start doing things differently. We will continue to keep the business side and the basketball side together, because that's what we need to do as a small market. We want someone with connections, but it could be someone not on the radar.

They have fielded a lot of calls from potential GM candidates' agents. there are 30 of these jobs in the world. We aren't in the turmoil everyone keeps writing about. We have some good pieces.

Shinn and Chouest work together very closely, there is no conflict. There is more of a transition going on, not some drastic difference that will be night and day. Ownership is a non-issue.

Some of that is obviously standard PR-speak, but I'm encouraged about the "drastic changes" part. If that's serious it shows they know they need to f'n do something. I have to wonder what they could possibly do at this point though (for this upcoming season). Maybe they're waiting on Peja/Wright trades.

He made it clear that trading him was not going to happen.

He meant that they weren't going to let him play GM.

I really hope something comes out of this. Just firing a guy and not actually making any moves to improve the caliber of your players reeks of desperation. That's basically a politician's strategy.

Lets just say it's pretty much the opposite of what I quoted. I don't have any links to back me up though sorry.

yep

Some random poster yesterday said that George was having 2nd thoughts and that ''God'' was involved...what do you know HH comes out and says something similiar.

eta: i know HH isn't popular here but i'm fairly certain his main source is Hugh Weber.

Chouest was the light at the end of the tunnel for us, I'm going to be livid if that hillbilly a-hole backs out of the deal.

random poster:

quote:

I heard this afternoon from a prominent business person in the area with connections close to the owners that Chouest is done dealing with Shinn to purchase the team. He cannot reason with Shinn on multiple issues that were not discussed but I am sure we can figure out.

Expect an announcement from Shinn in a week or two where he discusses a dream he had and the Lord told him to take control of this franchise and make it the best he can for the good people of New Orleans and the Gullf Coast. He is going to have a new attitude after dealing with his battle with cancer which has given him the stamina and determination needed to lead this team to a Championship! Shinn will then spin the whole selling the team and tell us how he and Gary are determined to work together to bring us the best team possible.

Think this is far from the truth????

Chouest should tell Shinn he had a vision where he and Billy Madison would GTFO.
