Why is Jeff "max contract to Peja Stojakovic" Bower seen as a savvy basketball man?

People probably respect him for at least keeping things afloat while working for Shinn. Bower messed up more than a few times but considering the cheap owner, the almost non-existent scouting department, and the rampant nepotism with unqualified Shinn relatives littering the front office Bower did fairly well in his entire tenure.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone would trade Chandler for Okafor (and his massive contract)
When this trade happened most thought we got a steal.

1) Why the heck is this thread not stickied? Hornets board!

2) Brackins has a sweet stroke. He needs to get some toughness and learn to work inside, but with his jumpshot and his length, he could be a mistmatch.

3) frick you again Walrus

Yep

I've compared him to Rasheed in the 2nd half of his career.(Although he could be an even more consistent shooter than Rasheed; his jumper is NICE)

With his athleticism, he'll also be able to get out and run with Paul and Collison

I had a name there but I forgot it. It reminds me too much of sr.com though.

HornetsReport is better than SR in some ways. And there are parts of that site that are much better.

If people did, they obviously never watched Okafor play or had any idea what kind of contract he had. This team had weakness in rebounding and offensive inside game outside of a jump shooter in West.

Instead they trade off an-oft injured 7'1 athletic defending/rebounding center expiring in 2 years for an over-paid/undersized, weak, 6'9 "center" that has no offensive game whatsoever and has failed to develop anything since coming into the league.

So in retrospect, we shed a valuable expiring 2-year contract for a 5-year contract simply to avoid risking chandler getting injured and taking on a guy that has no offensive game, is average at best at rebounding and defending, and can't defend actual centers.

Great deal.

i don't think it's near as bad as SR, not at all. it's pretty legit for hornets news as well.

Statistically, Okafor was a better player across the board, and he stays healthy.

Of course, in hindsight we would have all preferred to keep Chandler to avoid Okafor's onerous contract.

I still have hopes Okafor can return to form under Williams/we bring in a legit 7' to allow Okafor to play some at the 4 or trade him.

I like HR but at some points it can be extremely off-putting with how know it all everbody there is.
Plus they're in constant end of the world mode.

they traded for Okafor because he was younger, was tied up for 5 years, he played full seasons and made less than TC which allowed the Hornets to get under the luxury tax. getting under the tax prevented Shinn from having to pay the tax and it opened the Hornets up to their full revenue sharing benefits from the League.

He had those statistical advantages as a top 2 guy on a horrible team. Statistics can easily lie when the circumstances aren't looked at.

Okafor is an average at best player being paid all-star money and is screwing up our cap for 4 more years.

I understand it was to get below the luxury tax, but in the end to save some money for one season we now handcuffed the team for 4 more years. Brilliant.
