FWIW:

From our sources, Bower sat down with Chouest and Weber a couple weeks ago and drew up a list of candidates to replace him. This was far from a contentious firing.

I updated the post with the official Hornets Media release.

Bower is a good guy despite being a walrus.

Why would he remove himself from potentially becoming the GM of the Nets then?

I'm happy Bower's gone, but the biggest problem with the franchise is Shinn. We'll never build a competing team while he's the owner. I can't see us getting a legit GM until he's gone; I hope the turnover to Chouest is at least to a point where Chouest will be making the call on the new GM.

I know a guy who's a trainer, and that's what he said. Despite what you read on here/everywhere, he was universally liked within the org according to my buddy. As far as the Shinn thing, if Chouest doesn't have serious input on this, the bottom line is he is simply not buying the team. Period.

Chouest, Weber, & Shinn all make the call for GM I would think not just 1 person. I don't know if Chouest has any front office experience & or enough connections so hopefully Weber & Shinn are just helping him find a GM then complete the sale.

I highly doubt Bower put together a list for the Hornets...did Byron recommend Monty as well?

Great fricking news, I called it that he was a dead man walking and was just in until after the draft and FA started.

But our problem isn't Bower as much as it is Shinn. Bower was a pretty well respected guy.

Everyone in the league hates Shinn's guts.

Lot of snickering being done at George Shinn's expense. Most in Vegas laughing at him for canning a good basketball man in Jeff Bower.

Instability at the top is not going to instill confidence in Chris Paul. Hornets better bring in a heavy hitter to run basketball ops.

RT @me: You think ownership transfer will happen this season? (Haven't heard anything to say otherwise. Not sure on timeframe tho)

not sure how reliable he is though.

Why is Jeff "max contract to Peja Stojakovic" Bower seen as a savvy basketball man?

Probably getting a lot of love for his draft picks from last year.

In all honesty, he's made some major bad moves as GM since 2002. Getting Chris Paul was more due to it being a given at the #4 spot.

His trades and signings have been horribly short-sighted and killed this team in the long run. I have absolutely no idea why anyone would trade Chandler for Okafor (and his massive contract) and be called a solid basketball guy.

Seriously, Okafor is under-sized, under-skilled, and has little competitive spirit. Tyson may have had injury issues, but he'd have been an expiring contract this year and great trade bait despite his injuries. Instead, we are now being forced to try trade Okafor just 1 year later.

Yes, Bower is a great GM!

Like I said, by all rights, he's a good person. People generally don't hate good, non-pompus people.
