The D-Lineman was clearly head bobbing hard several times as if he was Shouting out a Cadence (sp?).. so that is what he probably was.

@slmandel
Semi clarification ... The penalty was "illegal stemming." It's for trying to get the opponent to jump early. Still had never heard it.

What an exciting game! WOW. Go Cajuns!

That seems like a call akin to aiding the runner. How often do we see this never called? Just odd to see it called at all.

Im strangely happy for the LSU-haters, even though I was pulling against them to start the game...but by the end I was definitely pulling for the cajuns
Its sad that ULL fans and LSU fans cant embrace each other and there is so much ill-will for no reason, we don't really need to be competing at all and we only rarely play each other
LSU and ULM, McNeese, Nicholls, etc all co-exist well, I dont know why ULL cant be included in that...if ULL fans would put away their hate for all things LSU they would realize that most LSU fans would actually root for them IMO
ETA: Hell of a win though, I was definitely hoping the kick would be good and the Cajuns have had an awesome season

Don't start this right now...because you can bet your arse I'll be rooting for the Tigers on their night.
We're going to enjoy being a program on the upswing. Biggest win in school history just happened. So save this bullshite for another day...and best of luck Jan. 9.

Yep, it's apparently "illegal Stemming"... Found this on a guy's American Football Terminology Dictionary
quote:
Stem definition
a) Initial portion of a pass route in which the receiver runs straight upfield before cutting; during the stem, the receiver tries to make the defender think he is running a streak route
b) rapid, last-second, lateral, pre-snap movement by a defensive lineman to a different alignment vis a vis the offensive linemen he is near; attempts to change and therefore confuse offensive blocking assignments when it is too late for the offensive blockers to refigure whom to block

You say this now, but if ULL would ever get to the point where they're winning as much as TCU or Boise State do, I'm guessing you and a whole lot of other folks would all be members of the ULL Haters Club.

Interesting, learn something new everyday

Maybe, but you could say the same thing about La-Tech or ULM...until they do become football powers and steal recruits and directly affect LSU's program I will continue to root for them

I say "Who cares!". If people want to be ridiculous and hate an institution they rarely play over some sort of God complex (LSU fans) or small penis complex (Cajun fans), then they're just pissing on Cheerios just to do it. I support both, and as a ULL student, I'm extremely happy and proud of the team and Coach Hud! I'm also pumped because I look like a football guru because when he spoke last season at a Cajuns basketball game, I told my girlfriend at the time that I thought he'd have them making bowl games very quickly. This is a great night, and I damn sure hope that on January 9th, the Tigers can win it for a great year of Louisiana college football for me!

i was cheering for ULL tonight (been following them all season while working in Lafayette... but even if i hadn't worked there i still would have been screaming geaux cajuns.)
i'm going to cheer for LA Tech on Wed. night... and obviously going to cheer for LSU on 1/9

Sure was nice to see Lutcher QB Blaine Gauthier do so well. Watched him win the 3A state championship in the Dome a few years ago and it must have been great for him to win a college bowl game there.

I don't think stealing recruits from LSU has anything to do with it since I'm quite ceratin that LSU has never lost a recruit to a WAC or Mountain School, and I doubt that they will ever lose one to a Sun Belt school no matter how successful that school is. The successful non-AQ's have become successful by developing one and two-stars, not by poaching four and five-stars. It's all about the Notra Dame syndrome that has infected some Tiger fans.

I appreciate your research on the definitions of stemming (I've never been so intrigued by it as I am now), but what you described is just talking about the act of it. Can anyone find the actual penalty definition of the play?
