Note that this involves removing overtime entirely (regular season and playoffs) except for Game 7s.

Games 1-6 are worth 2 points. In the case of a tie, each team gets 1 point.

Game 7 is worth 1 point. If tied at the end of regulation, overtime is like the current playoff overtime.

First team to 7 points in the series wins.

So remove the best thing? Golden goal postseason OT is on another level from any other sport.

Removing OT from Stanley Cup playoff games is like removing home runs from baseball games and slam dunks from basketball games. Any idea that makes playoff series more closely resemble soccer playoff series is a horrible idea.

The NHL has the best playoffs in pro sports, the only thing they need to do is go back to 1-8 conference seeding.

Why on earth would you believe this is an improvement?

Nah. The scheduling is unbalanced in the regular season playing more divisional games. Divisional playoffs are fine. The greatest thing about hockey and playoff hockey is that familiarity with another team breeds rivalries, contempt, and hatred for divisional foes.

In the end to win the Cup you have to defeat all opponents.
