It's guaranteed to be built as soon as they get an NBA team to commit. After that they will work on getting an NHL team in there.

Is it looking like they're going to stick around? I haven't really followed it very closely.

Any idea what NBA team they are targeting? Figured it might have been the Hornets, but obviously with new ownership there they aren't going anywhere now.

Kings? Bucks? Hawks?

Just naming teams at the bottom of attendance.

I've always assumed the Sacramento Kings.

Not a horrible situation. Thomas Robinson is going to be a star

I hope the new team takes the Sonics name, colors, and history.

I figure they'd at least take the name. I'd love to have the Sonics back in the NBA

I believe we would get all of this, but it would now be a shared history with OKC. Incredibly dumb though, IMO. All of the history should stay in Seattle if a new team is there.

Has that ever happened before?

Obviously the new Browns were an expansion team but took on the history of the old Browns before they moved to Baltimore. But I don't think an established franchise has ever relocated and took on the name and history of an old franchise.

ETA: I take that back, it just happened with the Thrashers moving to Winnipeg and becoming the Jets.

So why didn't Seattle build a new arena for the Sonics a few years ago and not lose the team?

Cleveland and Houston did the same thing with the Browns and Oilers. "we refuse to build a new stadium. Oh wait never mind we actually want a pro sports team we will build it, please give us another team"

Don't worry. It will be the Stars relocating.

I thought leaving the Sonics name, colors, etc. was part of the deal when Bennett took them to OKC? I always assumed once Seattle got another team, it'd be the Sonics again. Although it sucks for whatever city has their team torn away. I don't think an expansion team is an option at this point with Stern.

That was the plan, but the owners found a loophole and bolted for OKC

If the Sonics come back, I'll start watching the NBA.
