Living up here since 2005, I can attest to all of that. Their fans are super nice, but can't take off their "Husker Goggles". For the most part they have no clue what's going on in CF beyond the Big Red radar. In addition, no one is critical of the program... fans, media, etc. The "Oh Well... we'll get them next year" mentality breeds mediocracy and they are apparently fine with it.

Anyway, someone said this earlier... hard for Pelini to get 4 star talent. Not the most desirable football location and Program history only carries so much weight.

School admins now frown on recruits with arrest records or that get GEDs from gladiator academies and show up on campus ready to play football and wreck shite. A lot of the stuff they got away with under Osborne back in the day would never fly in the Internet era
Lawrence Philips fallout and wanting to improve the academic rep of the school changed a lot of the recruiting practices at Nebraska. They pulled very hard on California and now the competition for those kids is just too much for them to overcome
