Did Wayman Tisdale have the best chance to break Pete Maravich’s career scoring record if he would have returned for his senior season?

Maravich had 3,667 points and Tisdale had 2,661.

Well he would’ve needed to score 201 more points than he averaged pers season so it would’ve been a tall task

Didn’t Pete’s record only include 3 years because freshmen weren’t eligible?

Yep. And he played without a 3 point line which a lot of his shots would have been.

If someone played 3 years and 108 games they would have to average 34 points a game to get 3,668.

If someone played 4 years and 144 games they would have to average 25.5 points per game to get 3,668.

Chris Jackson was on pace after two years and 1,854 points when he left for the NBA.

Tisdale scored 932 points his junior season. He would need to score 75 more points in his senior season than his junior season . It would have been close.

Chris Jackson also would have had a great chance if he could keep up his average playing with Shaq the last two years.

While it’s true he shot from distance a lot, I don’t love it when people make this point. Outside shooters weren’t guarded like they are now in large part because there was no 3 point line so it wasn’t an advantage to shoot out there.
If there was a 3 point line it’s likely he would’ve had to work harder to get open looks, so I don’t know if his stats really would change that much

I just don't see anyone good enough to break his record staying in college long enough to do it.
