Even though the current NBA season is still technically suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, its return this year seems less and less likely with each passing day.

Team executives are starting to feel the pressure, frustrated with the lack of information from the league and pushing for an outright cancellation of the season so everyone can focus on safely resuming play next season.

NBA team executives and players' agents spoke to CNBC in recent weeks about the challenges in resuming play. They said team owners are concerned with liability issues and are conflicted about whether or not to give up on the current season. The individuals spoke on condition of anonymity as they aren't authorized to discuss league matters publicly.

Makes sense

Much rather scrap the season than play some stupid abbreviated playoff idea

Scrap it now so you don’t mess up the start of next season

The league is desperate to gift wrap a ring to LeBron so I dont see it being cancelled. If he doesnt win one this year, then he wont ever again.

3,2,1 before LeBron's biggest fanboy, WCA, chimes in about how his boy is better than Jordan.

This could just be a scare tactic to force nba to come out and say we are finishing the season. (wishful thinking)

This has gotta be agents of players on the Non-contending teams. I can’t see how any player would wanna call off the season instead of going out there and competing if they had a real shot at it.

Well, on 2nd Thought, I could see a player like lebron not wanting to play, we know how he is when it comes to competiton. And he has already mentioned that his body is out of whack (ie HGH treatment not scaled for the return/playoffs, etx.)

It sucks, but I’m starting to lean this way. Anything at this point would either wind up with a champion with a huge asterisks, or would mess up the start of next season, which could domino into affecting multiple seasons. May just be better off biting the bullet and calling this season.

If they could train in June, then play them in July and August it might not be that bad with 3 out of 5 until the Finals. But, the compressed schedule would probably wreak havoc on guys. Seems like there are always injuries, even with the long layoffs they usually have.

people keep saying this and I really disagree. We've already played a significant portion of the season, as long as they dont do something dumb with the postseason like single elimination, I think the NBA season will be fairly legitimate

The baseball season on the other hand....

They are going to have to come up with a lottery system for all 30 slots.

I'm thinking 3 different lotteries:

Normal lottery for the non-playoff teams (picks 1-14).
Lottery for the 8 teams 9-16 (picks 15-22).
Lottery for picks for the top 8 teams (picks 23-30).

Why cut the finals to 5 games? At that point two (at most) games isn’t killing anyone especially with the giant layoff guys have had. Just cut some earlier rounds down but give the conf finals and nba finals their full 7.
