The NBA and NBPA are planning to allow players to replace the last name on their jerseys with statement on social justice, sources tell

So where is the line going to be drawn between making "statements on social justice" and outright political campaigning? Would a prominent player using certain statements that imply support for a particular candidate be considered something "of value" vis-a-vis federal election laws? After all, these jerseys will be prominently displayed on national TV for a political purpose and will be sold to the public like hot cakes.

nope we need more ppl to accept free speech

This is not a free speech issue, and the First Amendment is not implicated in any way.

What happens when someone puts
TRUMP
20
on the back of their jersey?

Suspension? Fines?

I know it won’t happen because the NBA is woke as frick, but the melt would be glorious

There isn't one? The NBA can do what it wants with its jerseys. I asked a question out of curiosity about potential implications for federal election laws, but I don't care what these guys put on their backs.
