Maybe I'm nuts but I'm not convinced Durant is much of a difference maker on Golden State as others may think. I believe he is a net positive, but it's not as big as some think IMO.
There are only so many shots to go around, and we've seen that time and time again with guys like Bosh and Kevin Love in these stacked rosters.
The biggest impact of Durant to GS is that he effectively rubber stamps GS to the Finals because he wouldn't be with the Thunder or Spurs. It would be a huge deal because those teams are worse off, not so much because the Warriors are significantly better.
It will eventually cut their depth very thin, which has been a major strength for them. So, in 2 years, you would have Curry and Durant making about $60M combined. They do get Thompson and Green on the cheep for 2 or 3 more years, though.
I think it could hurt their D more than anything.

This probably sounds crazy but Dwight Howard would be a perfect fit for GS if he embraced the role of rim protector and 3rd/4th option on offense imo.
He would be 4th option at best in their crunch time lineup.

millsap doesn't count because we developed him).
Millsap counts because it was a damn good deal, at what many felt was below market value. only catch was it was for 3 yrs, which meant they didn't hve Bird rights last summer and lost Demarre.
speaking of Demarre, he was good FA pickup, as were Baze and Thabo. I think this regime has done pretty well in the free agent area. I wish they could at least get a meeting to try and sell KD, but it ain't happening apparently.

ESPN reporting Hassan Whiteside has set up meetings with Mavs, Lakers and Blazers
quote:
Riley recently met with Whiteside to set the course for free agency, but the NBA's leading shot-blocker has lined up sessions with the Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers in the initial hours of free agency.

Rockets, Warriors, Spurs, HEAT & Cavs interested in Mozgov (ESPN)

Watching Russillo and Kanell, Windhorst is throwing out these numbers and all you can do is laugh. Ryan Anderson looking at 20 million, Marvin Williams around 17. Bazemore north of 15!

The Blazers are pursuing him hard

Mozgov and the Warriors? Don't know if that's a good fit but they are leaving no stone unturned even after back to back Finals. That's a good front office.

craziness. on the radio here yesterday, they were quoting some nat'l NBA guy saying Baze was gonna get something averaging like 17 mil.
and I kinda knew Marvin was gonna get a nice, but damn. scratch that whole GS can replace Harrison Barnes with him for a lot cheaper thought. happy for Marvin though. good dude, biggest "sin" was he wasn't CP3.

Yeah it's going to be pretty crazy. Next offseason will be even wilder with the cap going up exponentially again and an even better FA crop.

@ChrisBHaynes Toronto granted first meeting with DeMar DeRozan in LA on July 1, sources tell @clevelanddotcom. Miami, Dallas, Philly, Lakers could follow.

Yeah if I had to put money on it Whiteside is as good as gone....there seems to be some bad blood there.

Memphis is still in very good position with Mike Conley, I'm told, but he is still planning on meeting with Dallas Fri. (likely in Memphis).

Sources: As 12:01 AM nears, free agent Hassan Whiteside's focus is centered on Miami and Dallas. Decision could come quickly on July 1.

Yannis Koutroupis @YannisNBA 3 minutes ago I firmly believe the KD+Lakers storyline is being kept alive by Jeanie Buss, who doesn't seem to have a strong grasp on free agency reality.

Yannis Koutroupis @YannisNBA now Jeanie still believes everyone wants to play for the Lakers and should sign there no matter what. Jim and Mitch live in the real world
For all the shite Jim Buss catches (most is warranted), I've always thought Jeanie Buss has been the bigger problem.

Yeah after that Cowherd interview she did a while back, my perception of her has completely changed. She's really out of touch

Oh man, looks like it'll be Dallas. I don't see him returning to Miami

I've read she undermines Jim at every turn and wants PJax back in LA so bad she can't stand it.
