Holes all up in your logic
That's the point. Simmons was so incompetent and out of his place that he made Jalen seem like he was top notch. Bilas is just Bilas. He loves the game, he follows college basketball with passion. I don't expect him to know that much about the pros. He is there to give his insight on the college guys. He held up well there. I don't care too much for him because he is a Dukie through and through, but he's articulate and never makes an arse out of himself.

GTFO with this shite about the draft
Shelbourne, WOJ etc all back up what Simmons said
Someone in the lakers or melo's camp REALLY wants this story out. They all got it out right at the same time
It is in bosh's best interest to make Riley sweat. That is his best leverage in negotiations

Probably posturing to push the Knicks to up their price and add people. I hope he signs with LA, but I think it has more to do with putting pressure on the Knicks
Posted on 7/5/14 at 8:50 pm to lsuguy84
Exactly
I think it is intriguing that LA could sign melo and basically whomever they want for Kobe's last two years and still be set up for KD in 2016

Yeah I just hope some of their plan starts to pan out. They positioned themselves to get to this point and it's all about pulling them in. I can't see KD leaving for LA, but Love would be nice

I wondered the same thing actually. It seems like a logical move for them, but I think they're planning on using that money later. Especially since news came out of Bosh wanting max money. That's all I can think. Bosh and Melo would be huge for them...I would be pretty ecstatic.

MSB thread of the year so far

One can dream. That would be epic. I just don't think they can pry KD away from OKC. I could be wrong, but I don't see him leaving. I really want LA to turn it around and get back into things in a year or two. I would be stoked if they landed Bosh and Melo.

This is all fun but I think nothing big ends up happening.

Why has the Lakers pitch caught Melo and LeBron's eye? Story with @Chris_Broussard espn.go.com/los-angeles/nb… 10:33pm - 5 Jul 14
quote:
In a surprising twist, the Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as the team that most worries the New York Knicks in their attempt to re-sign superstar free-agent forward Carmelo Anthony, sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN. The Lakers' pitch -- of teaming Anthony with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and prized rookie Julius Randle on a team with no long-term salary obligations -- made what one source described as a "strong impression" on Anthony and has made his decision over the holiday weekend "tough," according to another source close to the situation.
quote:
Los Angeles met with LeBron James' agent Rich Paul on Friday, and the four-time MVP is giving similar consideration to what the Lakers have to offer, according to sources. Gasol has emerged as a key selling point for the Lakers. While the Spaniard has been listening to pitches from championship contenders who lack much financial flexibility, such as Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Miami and Chicago, sources believe he would quickly re-sign with the Lakers if they are able to land Anthony or James.
quote:
However, there are also scenarios in which both James and Anthony could come to the Lakers, if each was willing to play for around $16 million per season, especially if the Heat and Knicks were willing to work a sign-and-trade with them.

I think you're right...I really think LA is going into a dark period for a while. I don't see these guys jumping ship for the hell of it to rebuild a franchise. David Stern totally fisted the Lakers on the way out
The Chris Paul failed trade has been hurting them for a while

Pretty appealing near term and long term future
LakersTV is huge for the as well
But playing for Kobe's buddy Byron Scott would be tough to deal with.
ETA I wonder if they gave LALA a show on the lakers channel would that be regulated by the league office? How would that work against the cap, if at all?

Stories like that mentioning Gasol are a joke. Who wouldn't want to resign if they land LeBron and Melo?

Apparently the reason they still don't have a coach is because hiring Byron Scott was in some ways a ploy to lure Kyrie Irving, but since he signed his extension in Cleveland they are still searching.

I swear to god, if the Lakers somehow land LBJ and Melo AND retain Gasol, I will have calluses for weeks...

They may get one, but they aren't getting both.
