Looks like Leonard is now at best Portland's 3rd string center. I feel like the analysts should spend more time bashing the teams who get absolutely nothing out of their first round picks instead of teams like the Pelicans who can turn them into good players like Asik.

Has anyone even tried to pursue Dwyane Wade yet?

I haven't seem him mentioned any where else. If the Big 3 does break up there would definitely be some suitors.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with him if the Big 3 break up, no doubt.

I really doubt Wade would go anywhere besides Miami.

Yes, the Blazers are the perfect example of a team that gets nothing out of their first round picks

Watching the Big 3 break up is pretty funny. I really started to hate Wade, Spolestra, and Chalmers during the Finals. They looked like they didn't give a shite. I kinda hope LeBron goes all Ric Flair on their asses and does the Decision 2:Electric Bugaloo live from the American Airlines Arena only to announce he's taking his talents to Cleveland. I can see it now. LeBron is sitting in some stupid chair next to Dan Lebetard. He asks LeBron about his free agency and time with the Miami Heat. Finally, he asks LeBron the question; LeBron where are you going? All of a sudden, the NWO WolfPac music hits and Kyrie Irving, Andrew Wiggins, Dion Waiters, and Anderson Varejao come out. LeBron stands up and rips off his shirt to reveal an old school Sugar Hill No.23 Cavs jersey. All the Miami guidos and Cubans in attendance start crying. Pat Riley has a stroke. The Good Job, Good Effort kid kills himself by jumping off the top of the arena. Dwayne Wade retires. Bosh stands up to reveal a matching Cavs No.1 jersey. Lebetard shits himself. Mario Chalmers runs up on stage and tries to join but gets his arse whooped viciously on stage by LeBron and Co. All the little white boys in immediately run to the nearest Lids to buy Cavs gear. Dan Gilbert comes out in a leather jacket and a Witness t-shirt with Machine Gun Kelly and gives Mickey Arison the bird and tells Spo to suck it. Mass rioting in the streets of South Beach. It would be beautiful.

They're not the best example to use but the Blazers have had there fair share of whiffs. Since 2002 they have had 14 1st round picks, only 3 have turned into quality NBA players.

So they are like 90% of the NBA?

Well that's basically my whole point.
Option A: Trade your 1st round pick and guarantee yourself a quality player
Option B: Keep it and have about a 15% chance of getting someone worth a damn.
I'm just confused as to how Option A is the one viewed as stupid/idiotic/desperate.

I don't think either is wrong way to go about it because there are so many variables at play. If Asik plays along side AD for the next 6-7 years then it is a great move, if he bolts once he hits free agency next season then it can be seen as a bad one.
I think a lot of the backlash is due to the fact that in today's NBA for a small market team to compete it requires incredible asset management. The good small market teams seem to hit on their draft picks year after year. Plus having guys on their rookie deals just makes you much more flexible.
The Spurs constantly hitting on their draft picks has allowed them to build their insane depth.
The Pels have honestly approached things in a similar way to the Grizzlies. Conley is the only player on the roster, minus 2nd round draft pick Jamaal Franklin, that was drafted by the Grizzlies. The rest of the team was basically built through trades. The only difference is we've used our draft picks and moved those guys eventually.
Y'all just have to find a way to move off of Eric Gordon's contract like we did with Rudy Gay last year. Now even if we resign Marc Gasol at the max this season, we will have max cap space next offseason while still having our core 4 (Conley, Zbo, Gasol, and TA) intact.

Horrible use of the MLE.
Olshey seems to be obsessed with 2015 cap flexibility.
