Same reason they traded Afflalo away for basically nothing. TANK
Absolutely not true, they are going for a youth movement. Trading away Afflalo opens up minutes for the young guards.
He only had one year left, then he would be free to opt out and sign a very big contract.
Magic will not be contenders anytime soon so they might as well pull the trigger now.

They did, in fact, trade Afflalo away for nothing. No debating that

They could've gotten a better deal for Afflalo pretty easily if they really wanted to.
Yes they might have done it so their young guards get more playing time, but in the process they made them selves worse, which last time I checked was called tanking.
They are obviously cool with being bad for another year, so they can end up with another lottery pick next season.

He has a shoulder injury that will keep him out for 7+ months, which seriously hurt his ability to go elsewhere. Someone would have probably overpaid him a lot this offseason based on the finals.

Pelicans among the many teams that have inquired about Jameer Nelson since his release. But he's in holding pattern like almost everyone.

Cleveland's belief that Utah will match any Hayward offer sheet is strongly discouraging Cavs from extending one, league sources tell Yahoo.

Thunder can make compelling case to Pau Gasol, and have $6.5m trade exception if a sign-and-trade becomes an option.

I hope that Dell remembers that we're already spending $35MM on guards and don't currently have a SF on roster.
Y'all have fun with Brian Roberts though

Isn't he a pretty good shooter?
Calathes is getting offered a shite ton of money to go back overseas and he still has 13 games left on his suspension, so they may just let him walk.

Yeah but he can be pretty streaky, settles for a lot of bad mid range jumpers and is terrible on defense.
But he is a great FT shooter (lead the nba last year) and can be a very good scoring option off the bench. We just saw way too much of him with Holiday hurt and we got instantly better when Tyreke became starter late in the season.
Why Roberts started before Tyreke, I have no idea. That is a big reason for our hate for him and a lot of it is misplaced.

Whether Memphis can keep @MikeMiller_13 remains uncertain b/c other franchises are trumping Grizz’s current offer, a source told @CBSSports.

All things equal, the source said Miller would rather stay in Memphis. But, at this moment, things aren’t equal. Decision in next 48 hours.

Gasol, one of the game's true pros, is looking for the "best mix of money and winning," source says. SAS, OKC, LAL, CHI, NYK, MIA in hunt.

Remains to be seen. Apparently the kid the got is suppose to be pretty promising.
Also lets not go nuts, clearly we have no idea what players true values are. Clearly they liked this kid more then the bulls first rounder, so that's worth something.
Remember when they got robbed in the Howard deal. They turned out robbing everyone else in reality.
A lottery draft pick in this class plus more to come. Not to mention T. Harris and Nic V. Two great young pieces, plus Afflalo for that matter.
So I'm going to trust their judgement. People tend to be so over reactionary. We will not know who won this trade for a few years.
Lastly shame on you RTR, remember when everyone just knew the Grizzles just "gave away" P. Gasol?
Yeah, think about that for a minute.

I'm not someone who considers tanking a bad thing. It has sort of become a necessity to rebuild. Plus it is probably too strong of a word to use here, but you can't tell me they are trying to be all that good next season.
I like what Orlando is building there A LOT. Plus the GM there seems like a really smart guy.
To be fair that was mainly because Marc Gasol was sort of an unknown to a lot of people in America. The Grizz apparently chased him like crazy in the draft and he was arguably the best player coming out of Europe at the time. He just needed to lose some weight. He would have been a lottery pick if he had waited an extra year to enter the draft.

Yeah, I think Tanking is the wrong word.
It seems clear that Henny is trying to build what he had in San Antonio. Team first guys with high work ethics.
This team could be fun and good.
Very young and athletic. Dare I say a potential OKC clone. Clearly I'm not promising that, but I like what we are doing.
He is doing a great job cleaning up Otis' mess. We were cash strapped with horrible contracts, from aging past their prime players.
Now we are young, athletic, hungry, with cap flexibility.
I'm happy with the direction of this team.
In the East we could be playoff bound in two years are so.

I think they realize that the East is wide open right now. With the pieces they have right now plus another lottery pick they become a dangerous team going forward.
Do you know if Oladipo is playing in the summer league? I kind of want catch an early glimpse of him and Payton playing together in the back court.

Fit, shares an agent with Thibs, and a much easier conference to compete in.

I mean, if it's about winning, then the choices shouldn't be so easy. Would the Bulls with Carmelo be better than the Rockets with Carmelo? Doubtful. Plus I don't think the Bulls can pay him as much.

Your homer side is showing. Melo on the Bulls with a healthy Rose and Noah quickly becomes the favorite in East depending on what Miami does.

Oladipo is on the summer league roster.
Both he and Nic V. Asked for more clarity in their futures roles. They both got their answer.
Very happy right now.
