Yes.

2) were so offended by it that they decided to not watch the Derby?

I already said I don't think it's the min reason, so not sur why you're asking this

but if people are getting offended by mild statements like that, then we have truly reach peak fragility in this country.

If this was just an isolated thing, sure. But it was oversaturation of wokeness from everywhere that was exhausting.

What options did they not have last year that they have currently? Especially with the shutdowns

well I was talking about my overall sports viewership as a whole for the past several years

but this year for me? its mostly the atmosphere and how weird the games feel with no fans

plus I think a lot of people discovered other things during the shut downs when we had no sports

And I absolutely believe that people simply moved on after months of not having it and the leagues themselves did a shite job of marketing the return

How often did you see posts on here saying they had no idea any of the restarts even began

I also think the restarts themselves with no fans and shitty atmospheres have turned off a lot of casual viewers

Cant speak for the other sports, but as for the NBA Finals, its been a foregone conclusion atleast to me that the Lakers would and will win. That alone has be watching the Finals sparingly. I didnt watch Game 3 for that reason alone, but Miami shockingly won.

Like Jimmy, but Miami doesnt have any star power. Celtics or even Giannis alone would easily have more fans watching

We obviously just aren't going to agree on what is a bigger impact. I do not deny that those things are part of it. But to me they don't really explain how many could turn off their sports fandom to the tune of massive drops across the board.

There's a reason Adam Silver is going away from the in your face SJW stuff.

the league was never going to make the court and jersey phrases permanent

How much you want to bet they continue to allow social justice phrases on warmup gear, still go all in on donations, and allow players to speak up during interviews and what not

Yes. Playing in a non traditional time in a non traditional format and is the most watched program on tv while showing a rise in numbers.

But what is it competing with? Are there regular fall releases of programming still hitting the airwaves? I really don’t know, haven’t been watching tv (even though I’m still paying for it like a dumbass)

I have no doubt they'll do all sorts of stuff that the casual viewer that they lost in all this won't see in an attempt to get those viewers back while trying to not piss off the players. I'm not sure it'll work though, but I don't see anyway you can spin his direction as "people don't really want to see this."

I watch the games. I'm not boycotting and I would prefer not see it either. To me its just annoying virtue signaling.

There are lots of people that would prefer not to have to see it or hear, but still watch the games.

Just like there are a lot that would prefer not see it and won't watch. Silver wants those people back.

absolutely

my main point was that at no point did I, or anyone really, think the social justice stuff on the court/jerseys would be permanent

I'd imagine the players might have a different opinion on that, but that's obviously an opinion.

Football is hurting other sports now.

I think people are conditioned to watch certain things at certain times. Basketball at this time without fans goes against most people’s routines.

Add to the effect of COVID and this year has been weird.
