Haven’t been seen it posted yet. Silver discussed possibly scrapping the 1-8 seeding through Conferences and go with just the best records from 1-16, no matter the conference. To me that would be absolutely awesome to see, just this year we could possibly see a Rockets/Warriors Finals matchup.

During All-Star Weekend, NBA commissioner Adam Silver hinted that the league has had discussions about a change that would seed the playoffs by record, disregarding conference. He explained, “You also would like to have a format where your two best teams are ultimately going to meet in the Finals. You could have a situation where the top two teams in the league are meeting in the conference finals or somewhere else. So we’re going to continue to look at that. It’s still my hope that we’re going to figure out ways.”

From what i read the other day he said keep conference top 8, then reseed 1-16 by record at that point, but there would still be the top 8 from each conf. Seems like he is tossing around ideas and going to make some change soon

It's just the best way to do it.

Very good idea.

I think back to a few years ago when all of the Pels, Thunder, and Suns should've gotten in over the multitude of shitty eastern conference teams with below .500 records.

This just seems panicky/knee-jerk. I think he is worried when LeBron goes west at having trainwreck finals or something. If they're going to do this, then get rid of conferences for the regular season and even out the schedules.

I like the geographic distinctions as it is and that guys could be enticed to stay in the east for a better opportunity to advance in the playoffs.

Why not just dump conferences/divisons altogether?

Scrap conferences. Gives so much freedom to make whatever change you want.

if this happens Lebron is no doubt going to a super team. No more easy east to rely on

The West has been deeper than the east for a very long time. It’s odd but true

I must've read it as if they're scrapping conferences altogether.

If that's not the case, this change won't be enough.

So right now the 1st rd matchups would be:

Houston/Miami
Golden State/New Orleans
Toronto/Portland
Boston/Denver
Cleveland/OKC
San Antonio/Philly
Washington/Milwaukee
Minny/Indiana

It's not right for an East Coast team to play a opening round series and be expected to win in Golden State. Or get their fans to watch games that begin at 10 pm their time.

But what about in baseball if you get a Mets/Dodgers matchup?

I support this, or at least some form of it. Geographically based conferences are pretty antiquated, IYAM.

I just want the best teams to get in.

Playoff series in baseball are more likely to be played in the afternoon. You'd never get a 3 PM weekday basketball playoff game.

Might as well get rid of the conferences. We’ve already scrapped them from the all star game.

Brotha, this was the life of a Red Wings fan watching them go to San Jose/Anaheim/Colorado/etc.
