with the new point system this year, do teams still re-seed based on victories when the chase starts?

if the chase started this week, would the 48 be 1st? or would he get bounced due to less victories.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the points reset to zero and drivers get three points for every win. So JJ wouldn't be in the lead.

Old system:

The top 12 in the driver point standings after the 26th race of the season qualified for the Chase. These 12 drivers each started with 5,000 points and then were awarded 10 bonus points for each victory.

New System:

The top 10 in the driver point standings after the 26th race of the season qualify for the Chase. These 10 drivers will have their points reset and be awarded three bonus points for each victory. The 11th and 12th spot in the Chase will go to the two drivers with the most victories ranked 11th to 20th in the point standings. If there are zero drivers with victories, the 11th and 12th positions will be filled based on points. If there are multiple drivers tied in total number of victories, the tie-breaker will be total points.

So JJ would be T-5 to start the chase. Kyle Busch would be first.

Old(original) points system was fine, but all they had to do was tweak it to give winner and top 10's more points separation and bottom ten's fewer points.

The Chase crap is pretty weak and they keep tweaking that every other year it seems. Demonstrates the flaws in the whole Chase nonsense.

Gordon a six-time winner under old,and Jimmy I think only three.

Well it looks like this year JJ is getting shafted by the Chase for whatever that's worth.

JG has 3 and JJ has 1. One race left so either driver could add a win.

I'm gonna project neither of them win that last race. Playing the odds and all that.

And now you can't compare old champions to new champions because of the points change.

They should race the championship like the IROC series. Have only 12 cars on the track and only race 100 miles.

If he raced to win, this would not be the case. He races for points.

Not saying it's not smart, but that's why a lot of people don't like him. He only tries to win when he has the super car. Otherwise he races to survive.

I don't dislike him. I'm just sick of him

Well nobody can predict how long either will race, but I'd bet the farm that JJ will never get to 85 wins, or however many Gordon will end up with.
