$1,000 bet on a set of doubles before he rolls a 7? No one plays those for more than $10.

Must have taken one of the fake classes at UNC on gambling where he didn't go to class.

Funny Dick and Pat never mention that.

I’m not sure what you have in your head, but the classes weren’t actually fake, which is why they didn’t get in trouble. There was one or two that were paper classes where they had to write a 20-30 page paper or something like that. Classes like that exist at every university. Tons of students took it. Seems like a bunch of emotional grown men acting like women about it.

Technically true. They got away with it because the "rocks for jocks" level classes were open to any student who wished to enroll.

But if the functional result was what happened - the students were steered into a specifically created major where they learned absolutely nothing material of value in the real world?

That's pretty shameful behavior that makes a joke of the concept of a student athlete and the legitimacy of a college degree from the institution offering that degree program. If it were UNLV or Western Kentucky guilty of similar behavior the NCAA likely buries them with penalties.

North Carolina coaches are supposed to support Big Tobacco. That's their boosters. Dean Smith smoked outside the locker room the one time I covered UNC for the old Cotton Bowl basketball tournament SMU used to host. In the 1986-1987 season they had UNC, Purdue, Towson State and SMU. A Kenny Smith led UNC and an Everette Stephens led Purdue team played in the 1st round while SMU played Towson State. In the championship game Carolina beat SMU 88-86. I don't remember it being that close, but will never forget Dean Smith smoking outside the locker room before the game, at halftime and after the game.
